Installing the M27BS cartridge is straightforward. Please follow these steps carefully to ensure proper function and optimal sound performance.

  1. Preparation: Before beginning, ensure your turntable is powered off and unplugged. Gently remove the existing cartridge from the tonearm's headshell, if applicable.
  2. Wiring: Carefully connect the four color-coded wires from the tonearm to the corresponding pins on the back of the M27BS cartridge. The standard color code is:
    • Red: Right Channel Hot (R+)
    • Green: Right Channel Ground (RG-)
    • White: Left Channel Hot (L+)
    • Blue: Left Channel Ground (LG-)
Ensure connections are firm but do not apply excessive force.
  3. Mounting: Attach the M27BS cartridge to the headshell using the provided screws. Align the cartridge so it is parallel with the headshell. The package includes two screws for secure mounting.
  4. Alignment: Proper cartridge alignment is crucial for sound quality and record preservation. While this cartridge is designed for easy installation, fine-tuning may be required. Refer to your turntable's manual for specific alignment procedures (e.g., using a protractor).
  5. Tracking Force Adjustment: Set the tracking force on your tonearm to 3.0 grams. The recommended range is 2.5 to 3.5 grams. An accurate tracking force gauge is recommended for precise adjustment.
  6. Anti-Skate Adjustment: Adjust your turntable's anti-skate setting to match the tracking force. This helps prevent the stylus from skipping and ensures even wear.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and properly aligned, operating the M27BS cartridge is part of your standard turntable usage. Always handle your turntable and records with care.

  • Record Placement: Place your vinyl record gently on the turntable platter.
  • Cueing: Use the tonearm lift (cueing lever) to gently lower the stylus onto the record's lead-in groove or desired track. Avoid dropping the tonearm manually, as this can damage the stylus or record.
  • Playback: Allow the record to play. The M27BS is designed to provide clear and accurate audio reproduction.
  • Stopping Playback: At the end of a side, or when you wish to stop, use the cueing lever to lift the tonearm from the record. Return the tonearm to its rest.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will prolong the life of your cartridge and stylus, ensuring consistent sound quality.

  • Stylus Cleaning: The stylus tip can accumulate dust and debris from records. Gently clean the stylus using a soft brush designed for stylus cleaning, brushing from back to front (away from the cantilever). Do not use excessive force or solvents.
  • Cartridge Body Cleaning: Wipe the cartridge body with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to remove dust.
  • Stylus Inspection: Periodically inspect the stylus tip for wear or damage. A worn stylus can damage your records and degrade sound quality. If the stylus appears bent, chipped, or excessively worn, it should be replaced.
  • Storage: When not in use, ensure the stylus guard is in place to protect the diamond tip from accidental damage.
