Setup and Installation

Before beginning, ensure your turntable is unplugged from the power outlet.

  1. Remove Old Cartridge (if applicable): Carefully detach the wires from your existing cartridge. Note the color coding for re-connection. Unscrew the old cartridge from the headshell.
  2. Mount New Cartridge: Align the MagLite M27BS cartridge with the mounting holes on your turntable's headshell. Use the provided mounting screws to secure the cartridge. Do not overtighten.
  3. Connect Wires: Connect the four color-coded wires from the tonearm to the corresponding pins on the back of the cartridge. Standard color coding is typically:
    • R (Red): Right channel hot
    • RG (Green): Right channel ground
    • L (White): Left channel hot
    • LG (Blue): Left channel ground
    Ensure connections are firm and correct to prevent hum or channel imbalance.
  4. Balance Tonearm: Follow your turntable's instructions to balance the tonearm. This typically involves adjusting the counterweight until the tonearm floats level.
  5. Set Tracking Force: Set the tracking force to the recommended value of 3.0 grams. The acceptable range is 2.5 to 3.5 grams. Refer to your turntable's manual for specific instructions on setting tracking force.
  6. Adjust Anti-Skate: Set the anti-skate control on your turntable to match the tracking force.
  7. Stylus Guard: Remove the stylus guard before playing records.
