3. Setup
The Blade 120 S2 RC Helicopter comes fully assembled, requiring no complex building. However, as a Bind-N-Fly (BNF) product, a compatible transmitter is required and not included in the box. You will need to bind your chosen Spektrum 6-Channel Receiver compatible transmitter to the helicopter.
3.1. Transmitter Requirement
This model requires a separate transmitter to operate. Ensure you have a compatible Spektrum 6-Channel Receiver transmitter. Refer to your transmitter's manual for specific binding instructions.

3.2. Battery Charging
Before first flight, fully charge the included E-flite 500mAh 1S 3.7V 25C Li-Po Flight Battery using the provided USB LiPo Battery Charger. Connect the battery to the charger and plug the charger into a suitable USB power source. The charging indicator light on the charger will show the charging status. Disconnect the battery once fully charged.
3.3. Binding Procedure
To bind your transmitter to the Blade 120 S2, follow these general steps:
- Ensure the helicopter's battery is disconnected.
- Put your Spektrum transmitter into bind mode (refer to your transmitter's manual).
- Connect the flight battery to the helicopter. The receiver's LED will flash rapidly, indicating it's in bind mode.
- Once bound, the receiver's LED will turn solid. Disconnect the battery from the helicopter, then power off your transmitter.
- Reconnect the battery to the helicopter and then power on your transmitter. The system should now be linked.
4. Operating Instructions
The Blade 120 S2 is designed for ease of flight, making it suitable for beginner RC pilots while offering agility for seasoned enthusiasts. It features SAFE Select flight envelope protection for enhanced stability.
4.1. Pre-Flight Checks
- Ensure the flight battery is fully charged and securely installed.
- Verify that your transmitter batteries are fully charged.
- Check all rotor blades and tail rotor for any damage or cracks.
- Confirm all control surfaces move freely and correctly in response to transmitter inputs.
- Perform a range check of your radio system before the first flight of the day.
4.2. Take-off and Flight
Place the helicopter on a flat, level surface. Slowly increase the throttle. The helicopter will lift off smoothly. Utilize the SAFE Select technology for stable flight, especially if you are a beginner. This fixed-pitch, flybarless design offers both speed and agility.
4.3. Landing
To land, slowly reduce the throttle while maintaining control. Aim for a gentle descent. Once on the ground, fully reduce the throttle to stop the rotors. Disconnect the flight battery immediately after landing to prevent accidental startup.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Blade 120 S2 helicopter.
- After Each Flight: Inspect the main rotor blades, tail rotor, landing gear, and canopy for any signs of damage. Check for loose screws or connections.
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the helicopter. Avoid using solvents or harsh chemicals.
- Motor and Gearbox: Periodically check the main motor and tail motor for debris. Ensure the main gear meshes correctly with the motor pinion.
- Battery Care: Store LiPo batteries at a storage voltage (around 3.8V per cell) if not used for extended periods. Never fully discharge or overcharge batteries.
- Replacement Parts: If any part is damaged, replace it with genuine Blade spare parts to maintain performance and safety.
6. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your Blade 120 S2 helicopter.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Helicopter does not bind to transmitter. | Incorrect binding procedure; transmitter not in bind mode; receiver issue. | Review the binding procedure in Section 3.3. Ensure transmitter is in bind mode before connecting helicopter battery. Try rebinding. |
| Helicopter drifts during hover. | Trim settings incorrect; minor air currents; servo linkage adjustment needed. | Adjust trims on your transmitter. Fly in calm conditions. Check and adjust servo linkages if persistent. |
| Loss of power or short flight times. | Battery not fully charged; damaged battery; motor or gear issue. | Ensure battery is fully charged. Inspect battery for puffing or damage. Check motor and main gear for smooth operation. |
| Rotors spin but helicopter does not lift off. | Damaged main rotor blades; main gear slipping; low battery. | Inspect main rotor blades for damage and replace if necessary. Check if the main gear is securely attached to the main shaft. Charge battery. |
