Setup

1. Charging the Device

Before initial use, fully charge the Edge 1030 Plus. Connect the device to a USB power adapter or a computer USB port using the provided USB cable. The charging indicator will show the battery status.

2. Mounting the Device

Use the standard mount or flush mount to secure the Edge 1030 Plus to your bicycle handlebars or stem. Ensure the mount is tightened securely to prevent movement during rides. Attach the tether for added security.

3. Installing Sensors

Install the speed and cadence sensors on your bicycle according to their individual instructions. Wear the HRM-Dual™ heart rate monitor directly on your skin, just below your sternum, before pairing.

4. Initial Power-On and Pairing

Press the power button to turn on the device. Follow the on-screen prompts to select your language and initial settings. The device will guide you through pairing the included speed, cadence, and heart rate sensors. You can also pair with a compatible smartphone via Bluetooth for additional features.

Operating Instructions

Device Navigation

The Edge 1030 Plus features a 3.5-inch color touchscreen. Swipe left or right to navigate between data screens, and tap to select options. Use the physical buttons for power and lap functions.

Starting a Ride

  1. From the home screen, select your desired activity profile (e.g., Road, Mountain).
  2. Ensure GPS is acquired and sensors are connected.
  3. Press the Start button to begin recording your ride.
  4. Press the Stop button to pause or end your ride.

Navigation and Mapping

The device comes with preloaded Garmin Cycle Map. You can create courses, follow existing routes, or navigate to specific points of interest. The map display provides detailed road and trail information.

Performance Monitoring

Workout Suggestions and Training Guidance

The device can provide daily workout suggestions based on your current training load and VO2 max. Sync structured indoor or outdoor workouts from the Garmin Connect app or other compatible platforms like TrainingPeaks and TrainerRoad.

ClimbPro Feature

When following a route or course, the ClimbPro feature automatically displays remaining ascent and grade for climbs, helping you manage your effort effectively.

Mountain Bike (MTB) Dynamics

Track specific MTB metrics including jump count, jump distance, and hang time. The Grit feature rates the difficulty of a ride, and Flow measures how smoothly you descend a trail.

Cycling Awareness Features

Incident detection and assistance features can send your real-time location to emergency contacts when paired with a compatible smartphone. The device is also compatible with inReach satellite communicators for two-way messaging (active satellite subscription required for inReach device).

Off-Course Notifications

You can temporarily pause off-course notifications if you intentionally deviate from your route to explore. The device will provide directions back to the original route when you are ready to resume.

Maintenance

Battery Life and Charging

The Edge 1030 Plus provides up to 24 hours of battery life, which can be extended to 48 hours with the Garmin Charge power pack (sold separately). Recharge the device using the provided USB cable. Avoid exposing the USB port to moisture.
