5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Charging a Battery
- After connecting the battery and plugging in the charger, the digital display will show the current battery voltage.
- Select the appropriate charging mode (6V or 12V) using the mode selection button. The charger will automatically detect the battery type (e.g., WET, GEL, AGM) and adjust the charging process.
- If applicable, select a specific charging program (e.g., "Cold Weather Mode" for temperatures below 0°C/32°F).
- The "Charging" indicator will illuminate, and the display may show charging progress or current.
- Once charging is complete, the "Charged" or "Full" indicator will illuminate. The charger will automatically switch to maintenance mode to prevent overcharging.
- To disconnect, first unplug the charger from the power outlet, then disconnect the black (-) clamp, followed by the red (+) clamp.
5.2. Using the Jump Start Function
The jump start function provides a temporary high current to assist in starting a vehicle with a discharged battery. This is not a charging function.
- Ensure the battery is connected correctly as per Section 4.
- Select the "Jump Start" mode on the charger.
- Attempt to start the vehicle. Do not crank the engine for more than 5 seconds. Wait at least 1 minute between attempts.
- If the vehicle starts, immediately disconnect the charger: first unplug from power, then disconnect the black (-) clamp, then the red (+) clamp.
- If the vehicle does not start after a few attempts, the battery may be severely discharged or faulty, or there may be another issue with the vehicle.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Ultimate Speed ULG 17 A1 Battery Charger, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Charger does not power on. | No power from outlet; faulty power cord; internal fault. | Check power outlet with another device. Inspect power cord for damage. If problem persists, contact customer support. |
| "Error" or "Fault" indicator lights up. | Incorrect battery connection (reverse polarity); battery severely damaged; incorrect voltage selection. | Disconnect and re-connect clamps ensuring correct polarity (+ to +, - to -). Check battery condition. Ensure correct 6V/12V mode is selected. |
| Battery not charging. | Poor connection; battery completely dead; battery type incompatible; charger fault. | Ensure clamps are securely attached and terminals are clean. Battery may be too discharged to accept a charge (try jump start if applicable, or professional assessment). Verify battery type compatibility. |
| Jump start function not working. | Insufficient power from charger; vehicle issue; battery too weak. | Ensure charger is plugged into a live outlet. Check vehicle's starter and battery. Allow charger to provide power for a few minutes before attempting to start. |
