TIP Reusable Wedges

TIP Tile Leveling System Reusable Wedges (100 pieces)

Instruction Manual

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the TIP Tile Leveling System Reusable Wedges. This system is designed to assist in achieving perfectly level and evenly spaced tile installations, reducing lippage and improving overall finish quality. Please read this manual carefully before use to ensure proper operation and longevity of the product.

Product Components

This package contains 100 reusable wedges. These wedges are designed to be used in conjunction with compatible tile leveling clips (sold separately) to create a flat and even tiled surface.

The clip measures approximately 2.3 cm wide and 1.7 cm high, while the wedge is about 9.1 cm long, 2.1 cm wide, and 1.6 cm high. This image helps in understanding the physical size and compatibility of the components.

Setup and Preparation

  1. Prepare the Surface: Ensure the subfloor or wall surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Remove any debris, dust, or old adhesive.
  2. Apply Adhesive: Spread tile adhesive evenly over the prepared surface using a notched trowel, following the adhesive manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Place First Tile: Lay the first tile into the adhesive, ensuring it is correctly positioned.
  4. Insert Leveling Clips: Insert the base of the tile leveling clips (sold separately) under the edges of the tile, typically one clip per side, or more for larger tiles. Ensure the clips are fully seated in the adhesive and the vertical part of the clip is flush against the tile edge.

Operating Instructions

  1. Place Subsequent Tiles: Continue laying tiles, inserting clips between each tile as described in the setup section.
  2. Insert Wedges: Once two adjacent tiles are in place with a clip between them, insert a reusable wedge into the opening of the clip. Push the wedge firmly until the two tiles are level with each other. The ribbed surface of the wedge will engage with the clip, holding the tiles in position.

  1. Use Leveling Pliers (Optional): For consistent pressure and easier insertion, a tile leveling plier tool (sold separately) can be used to push the wedges into the clips. This ensures uniform tension across all clips.

  1. Allow Adhesive to Cure: Leave the clips and wedges in place until the tile adhesive has fully cured. Refer to the adhesive manufacturer's recommendations for curing times, which typically range from 24 to 48 hours.
  2. Remove Wedges and Clips: Once the adhesive is completely dry, remove the wedges and clips. The clips are designed to break off at the base. You can kick them or strike them with a rubber mallet parallel to the grout line. The wedges can then be collected for reuse.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean any residual adhesive or grout from the reusable wedges. Warm water and a brush are usually sufficient. Ensure they are completely dry before storage.
  • Storage: Store the wedges in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures to preserve their material integrity and extend their lifespan.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect wedges for any signs of damage or wear. Replace any wedges that are cracked, bent, or no longer hold tension effectively.

Troubleshooting

Issue: Tiles are not perfectly level after wedge insertion.
Solution: Ensure clips are fully seated under the tiles and wedges are pushed in with adequate and consistent force. Check the consistency of your tile adhesive; it should not be too thin or too thick. For very large or heavy tiles, consider using more clips per tile edge.
Issue: Wedges are difficult to insert or break during insertion.
Solution: Verify that you are using compatible clips. Do not force wedges if there is excessive resistance; this may indicate an issue with clip alignment or adhesive buildup. Ensure the adhesive has not started to set before inserting wedges. Using a leveling plier tool can help apply even pressure and prevent breakage.
Issue: Clips are not breaking cleanly at the base.
Solution: This usually occurs if the adhesive has not fully cured. Wait for the recommended curing time before attempting to remove the clips. Ensure you are striking the clips parallel to the grout line, not perpendicular, to facilitate a clean break.
