4. Setup

4.1. Insert SIM Card

  3. Insert a Nano SIM card into the slot with the gold contacts facing down and the notched corner aligned correctly. Push until it clicks into place.

4.2. Power On

  1. Connect the power adapter to the Power Input port on the rear of the device and plug it into a wall outlet.
  2. Press and hold the On/Off button until the power indicator lights up.

4.3. Activate Data Plan

A wireless internet data plan is required for internet access. Contact your service provider (AT&T) to activate or confirm your data plan.

4.4. Initial Connection

Once powered on and the data plan is active, the device will attempt to connect to the cellular network. The Signal Strength indicator will show the connection status.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Connecting Devices via Wi-Fi

The ZTE MF279 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

  1. On your Wi-Fi enabled device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), search for available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. Select the network name (SSID) corresponding to your ZTE MF279. The default SSID and password are typically found on a label on the device or in the Quick Start Guide.
  3. Enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted.
  4. Your device should now be connected to the internet.

5.2. Connecting Devices via Ethernet

For a wired connection, use the Ethernet port:

  1. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the ZTE MF279.
  2. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your computer or network switch.
  3. The wired device will automatically obtain an IP address and connect to the internet.

5.3. Using WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)

WPS allows for easy connection of compatible Wi-Fi devices without entering the password manually.

  1. Press the WPS button on the ZTE MF279 (refer to the device overview for location).
  2. Within two minutes, activate WPS on your Wi-Fi device.
  3. The devices will automatically connect.

5.4. Managing Connected Devices and Parental Controls

You can manage connected devices and configure parental controls through the AT&T Wireless Internet Manager. This web interface is accessible from any device connected to your ZTE MF279.

  1. Open a web browser on a connected device.
  2. Enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.1) or URL for the AT&T Wireless Internet Manager (check your device's label or Quick Start Guide).
  3. Log in using the administrator credentials.
  4. From the manager, you can view currently connected devices, block or unblock specific devices, and set up parental control rules to restrict internet access.

5.5. Voice Services

The ZTE MF279 includes two standard telephone ports (J11) for connecting traditional corded or cordless phones. This allows you to use a cellular network for voice calls, similar to a landline.

  • Connect your phone to one of the telephone ports on the rear of the device.
  • Ensure your AT&T plan includes voice services for this device.
  • Features like Voicemail, Three-Way Calling, Call Waiting, and Call Forwarding are supported, depending on your service plan.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your ZTE MF279 router:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Placement: Place the device in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture. Avoid placing it near other electronic devices that may cause interference.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Internet Connection:

    • Restart the router by powering it off and then on again.
