Setup

1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the sharpener from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage.
2. Placement: Place the sharpener on a stable, flat surface. The unit features a slip-resistant bottom to maintain stability during use.
3. Power Connection: Insert the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Ensure the voltage matches the requirements specified on the sharpener's label.

Operating Instructions

1. Insert Pencil: Gently insert a pencil into the sharpening opening at the top of the unit. The SafeStart motor will automatically activate upon proper insertion.
2. Sharpening: Hold the pencil steady without applying excessive pressure. The sharpener's flyaway cutter is designed to prevent oversharpening, stopping when the pencil reaches an optimal point.
3. Remove Pencil: Once the motor stops or the desired sharpness is achieved, carefully remove the pencil.

This sharpener is equipped with an anti-clog cutter gear, making it suitable for sharpening colored pencils in addition to standard graphite pencils.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sharpener.

1. Emptying the Shavings Bin: When the shavings bin appears full, or to prevent clogging, remove it from the unit. The SafeStart motor will automatically stop when the bin is removed.
2. Disposal: Carefully empty the pencil shavings into a waste receptacle.
3. Cleaning: Wipe the interior and exterior of the bin with a dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning solutions. Reinsert the bin securely until it clicks into place.

Troubleshooting

• Sharpener does not turn on:
  • Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet.
  • Verify that the shavings bin is correctly and securely inserted. The SafeStart motor prevents operation if the bin is not in place.
  • Check if the outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
• Pencil is not sharpening effectively:
  • The shavings bin may be full. Empty the bin as described in the Maintenance section.
  • Ensure the pencil is inserted straight and fully into the sharpening opening.
  • If using colored pencils, ensure the anti-clog feature is not obstructed by excessive wax buildup. Clean the cutter if necessary (unplug first).
• Pencil lead breaks frequently:
  • Avoid applying excessive pressure when sharpening. The sharpener is designed to work efficiently with light pressure.
  • The flyaway cutter prevents oversharpening, but very soft lead pencils may still be prone to breakage if already damaged.
