4. Getting Started

4.1. Unpacking and Placement

  1. Carefully remove the machine from its packaging.
  2. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface.
  3. Ensure adequate lighting and space for comfortable operation.

4.2. Power Connection

  1. Connect the foot controller plug into the machine's receptacle.
  2. Insert the machine plug into the power outlet.
  3. Turn on the power switch, usually located on the side of the machine.

4.3. Winding the Bobbin

  1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
  2. Follow the bobbin winding path indicated on the machine.
  3. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
  4. Push the spindle to the right and press the foot controller to wind the thread.
  5. Stop when the bobbin is full, cut the thread, and remove the bobbin.

4.4. Threading the Upper Thread

  1. Raise the needle to its highest position.
  2. Place the thread spool on the spool pin.
  3. Follow the numbered threading path marked on the machine, ensuring the thread passes through all guides and the take-up lever.
  4. Thread the needle from front to back.

4.5. Inserting the Bobbin

  1. Open the bobbin cover.
  2. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case, ensuring the thread unwinds in the correct direction (usually counter-clockwise).
  3. Pull the bobbin thread through the tension spring and into the bobbin race.
  4. Close the bobbin cover.

5. Basic Operation

5.1. Stitch Selection

Turn the Stitch Selector Dial to choose your desired stitch pattern. The machine automatically sets the optimal stitch length and width for the selected stitch.

5.2. Starting and Stopping Sewing

  1. Place your fabric under the presser foot.
  2. Lower the presser foot lever.
  3. Gently press the foot controller to start sewing. The harder you press, the faster the machine will sew.
  4. To stop, release pressure on the foot controller.

5.3. Reverse Sewing

To reinforce stitches at the beginning and end of a seam, press and hold the reverse lever while sewing. Release the lever to resume forward sewing.

5.4. Using the Free Arm

The accessory compartment can be removed to reveal the free arm. This feature is useful for sewing tubular items such as sleeves, cuffs, and pant hems.

5.5. Four-Step Buttonhole Sewing

The M2100 features a four-step buttonhole process. Refer to the markings on the Stitch Selector Dial and the included Buttonhole Foot for detailed instructions on each step to create buttonholes of the desired size.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning the Machine

Regular cleaning helps maintain your machine's performance:

  • Power Off: Always unplug the machine before cleaning.
  • Remove Needle Plate: Use the provided screwdriver to remove the needle plate.
  • Clean Feed Dogs and Bobbin Area: Use the lint brush to remove lint and dust from the feed dogs and around the bobbin case.
  • Wipe Exterior: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces.

6.2. Needle Replacement

Replace needles regularly (after 8-10 hours of sewing) or if they become bent or dull. Use SINGER brand needles for optimal performance.

  1. Turn off the machine and unplug it.
  2. Loosen the needle clamp screw.
  3. Remove the old needle.
  4. Insert a new needle with the flat side facing the back of the machine, pushing it up as far as it will go.
  5. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

7. Troubleshooting
