Setup
Filling the Lighter with Fluid
For optimal performance, use only genuine Zippo lighter fluid.
- Remove the inner unit from the lighter case.
- Lift the felt pad on the bottom of the inner unit to expose the packing material.
- Slowly saturate the packing material with Zippo lighter fluid. Do not overfill. Stop filling when the fluid reaches the top of the packing material or begins to change color.
- Insert the inner unit back into the lighter case.
- Wipe off any excess fluid from the lighter and your hands before igniting. Ensure the fluid container is closed and stored away from the lighter.
Replacing the Flint
A new flint is required when the lighter fails to produce a spark.
- Remove the inner unit from the lighter case.
- Unscrew the flint spring from the bottom of the inner unit using a small screwdriver or the edge of the lighter lid.
- Carefully remove the old flint (if any) and the flint spring.
- Insert a new Zippo flint into the empty flint tube.
- Replace the flint spring and screw it in tightly. Do not overtighten.
- Insert the inner unit back into the lighter case.
Operating Instructions
Igniting the Lighter
- Open the lighter lid.
- Spin the flint wheel downwards with your thumb, striking it against the flint. This action will produce a spark and ignite the wick.
Extinguishing the Flame
- To extinguish the flame, simply close the lid. Do not blow out the flame. The lid will cut off the oxygen supply, causing the flame to go out.
Maintenance
Wick Replacement
Replace the wick when it becomes discolored or the lighter fails to light consistently.
- Remove the inner unit from the lighter case.
- Remove the flint, flint spring, and felt pad (as described in the "Replacing the Flint" section).
- Using tweezers or small pliers, carefully pull the old wick out through the chimney hole from the top.
- Thread a new Zippo wick through the chimney hole from the top, pulling it until the white wick is visible at the top of the chimney.
- Bend the wick into a serpentine (S-shape) pattern within the packing material, ensuring it makes good contact with the packing material for optimal fluid absorption.
- Replace the packing material, felt pad, flint, and flint spring.
- Trim the wick even with the top of the chimney.
General Care
- Keep the lighter clean by wiping it with a soft cloth.
- Store the lighter in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Always ensure the lid is fully closed to prevent fluid evaporation.
Troubleshooting
- Lighter won't light:
Check fluid level. Refill if necessary. Check flint. Replace if worn or missing. Ensure wick is properly trimmed and positioned. - Weak or inconsistent flame:
This often indicates low fluid or a worn wick. Refill fluid or replace the wick. Ensure the wick is properly arranged within the packing material. - Lighter leaks fluid:
Do not overfill. Ensure the felt pad is securely in place. If the problem persists, the packing material or felt pad may need replacement. - Lid is loose or doesn't close properly:
The hinge may be worn. Zippo offers repair services under its lifetime guarantee.
