4. Setup

4.1 Inserting the SIM Card

  1. Ensure the router is powered off.
  2. Locate the micro-SIM card slot on the rear of the device.
  3. Insert the micro-SIM card into the slot with the gold contacts facing down and the notched corner oriented correctly. Push until it clicks into place.

4.2 Powering On the Device

  1. Connect the provided power adapter to the router's power input port.
  2. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet.
  3. The router will automatically power on. Wait for the indicators to stabilize.

4.3 Initial Configuration

You can manage the router via its web user interface (Web UI) or the HUAWEI SmartHome App.

Via Web UI:

  1. Connect your computer to the router via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable. The default Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password are usually found on a label at the bottom of the router.
  2. Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.8.1) in the address bar.
  3. Log in using the default username and password (usually admin for both, or as indicated on the router label).
  4. Follow the on-screen wizard to complete the initial setup, including changing default passwords and configuring network settings.

Via HUAWEI SmartHome App:

  1. Download the HUAWEI SmartHome App from your device's app store (iOS or Android).
  2. Connect your smartphone to the router's Wi-Fi network.
  3. Open the app and follow the instructions to add and manage your router.

5. Operating the Router

5.1 Connecting Devices

Wi-Fi Connection:

Locate the Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password on the router's label. On your device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), select the router's Wi-Fi network from the available networks list and enter the password to connect.

Wired Connection:

Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer or other wired devices to the LAN1 or LAN2/WAN port on the router.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the router. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Temperature: Ensure the router is operated within its recommended temperature range to prevent overheating.

7. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Check the Status indicator. If red, ensure SIM card is correctly inserted and active.
    • Verify APN settings in the Web UI.
    • Restart the router and your connected device.
  • Slow Internet Speed:
    • Check signal strength indicator on the router or in the Web UI. Relocate the router for better signal.
    • Ensure no excessive background downloads are occurring.
    • Try switching between 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands.
  • Cannot Access Web UI:
    • Ensure your device is connected to the router's network.
    • Verify the IP address entered in the browser is correct.
    • Clear browser cache or try a different browser.
  • Wi-Fi Disconnects Frequently:
    • Reduce distance between router and device, or remove obstacles.
    • Change Wi-Fi channel in router settings to avoid interference.
    • Ensure router firmware is up to date.
