1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Makita DLM382Z 18Vx2 LXT 15-inch Cordless Lawn Mower. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the product and keep it for future reference.
2. General Safety Information
Always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Keep children and bystanders away. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including eye protection, sturdy footwear, and hearing protection. Ensure the work area is clear of debris before operation.
- Read all instructions carefully before use.

3. Package Contents
The Makita DLM382Z (Tool Only) package typically includes the following items:

4. Setup
4.1 Handle Assembly
Unfold the handles and secure them using the provided knobs and bolts. Ensure all connections are tight before use. The handles are designed to fold for compact storage.

4.2 Grass Collection Bag Assembly
Assemble the grass collection bag by attaching the fabric bag to its frame. Lift the rear safety flap of the mower and hook the grass bag onto the notches provided. Ensure it is securely attached.

4.3 Mulching Plug Installation (Optional)
If you wish to mulch grass clippings, install the optional mulching plug (part no. 412273-7) into the rear discharge opening after removing the grass collection bag. This allows clippings to be finely cut and returned to the lawn as fertilizer.

4.4 Battery Installation
The mower operates on two 18V LXT Lithium-Ion batteries. Open the battery cover located on top of the mower. Insert two fully charged batteries into the designated slots until they click into place. Close the battery cover securely.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Adjusting Cutting Height
The mower offers 13 cutting height settings, ranging from 13/16" to 3-15/16". To adjust, use the single lever located on the side of the mower. Lift the lever, move it to the desired height setting, and release to lock it in place.

5.2 Starting the Lawn Mower
To start the mower, ensure the safety key is inserted. Engage the 2-step switch/handle lever starting system. The soft start feature will gradually increase speed, and the electric brake will stop the blade within 3-5 seconds upon release for safety.
5.3 Mowing Techniques
For optimal results, mow in overlapping rows. The mower supports both rear bagging (with the grass collection bag) and mulching (with the optional mulching plug). Adjust your mowing pattern based on your lawn's condition and desired finish.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your lawn mower.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the mower deck and grass bag. Remove any grass clippings or debris from the blade area and vents.
- Blade Inspection: Periodically inspect the blade for sharpness and damage. A dull or damaged blade can affect cutting performance.
- Battery Care: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Avoid extreme temperatures. The battery capacity warning light indicates approximate remaining power.
- Storage: The folding handles and two-point carrying handles allow for easy and compact transport and storage. Store the mower in a dry, secure location.

7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your lawn mower, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:
- Mower does not start: Ensure batteries are fully charged and correctly inserted. Check that the safety key is fully engaged and the 2-step switch/handle lever is activated.
- Poor cutting performance: The blade may be dull or damaged. Replace or sharpen the blade. Adjust the cutting height for the grass type and condition.
- Excessive vibration: Check the blade for damage or imbalance. Ensure all fasteners are tight.
- Mower stops during operation: Batteries may be depleted or overheated. Allow batteries to cool and recharge. Clear any obstructions from the blade area.
