1. Introduction

The HOTONE Ampero One MP-80 is a compact and powerful guitar multi-effects processor designed to deliver high-quality sound in a portable format. It features advanced CDCM HD (Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition) and F.I.R.E. (Field Impulse Response Enhancement) modeling systems, providing realistic amplifier and effect simulations. The device includes a 4-inch high-definition color touch screen for intuitive control and an optimized user interface for a smooth experience.

This unit integrates 242 effects from the XTOMP library, alongside over 50 original HOTONE effects, covering categories such as Drive, Dynamic, Filter, Modulation, Delay, and Reverb. Additional features include a built-in drum machine with 100 patterns, a looper with up to 100 seconds of recording time, and an integrated expression pedal for dynamic control over your sound.

2. Setup

  1. Power Connection: Connect the included 9V DC power adapter to the 'DC 9V' input jack on the rear panel of the Ampero One. Ensure the power source meets the specified voltage and current requirements.
  2. Instrument Connection: Connect your guitar or other instrument to the 'INPUT' jack using a standard 1/4" unbalanced (TS) instrument cable.
  3. Audio Output: Connect the 'OUTPUT L (MONO)' and 'R' jacks to your amplifier, mixer, or audio interface using 1/4" unbalanced (TS) cables. For mono output, use only the 'OUTPUT L (MONO)' jack.
  4. Headphones: For silent practice, connect headphones to the 'PHONES' 1/8" stereo (TRS) output jack.
  5. Auxiliary Input: Connect an external audio source (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone) to the 'AUX IN' 1/8" stereo (TRS) input jack to play along with backing tracks.
  6. USB Connection: Connect the Ampero One to a computer using a USB 2.0 Type-C cable for firmware updates, patch management, and USB audio recording.

3. Operating the Ampero One

The Ampero One features a user-friendly interface centered around its 4-inch touch screen and dedicated control knobs and footswitches.

  • Touch Screen Navigation: Use the touch screen to select presets, adjust parameters, and navigate through menus. The intuitive UI allows for quick and easy sound shaping.
  • Control Knobs: The 'VOLUME' knob controls the overall output level. The 'MENU/VALUE' knob allows for precise parameter adjustments and menu navigation when not using the touch screen.
  • Footswitches: The three footswitches provide hands-free control over various functions, including switching presets, engaging/disengaging effects, and activating the tuner or looper.
  • Expression Pedal: The integrated expression pedal can be assigned to control parameters such as volume, wah, or other effect parameters in real-time.
  • Effects: Explore the extensive library of 242 effects and over 50 original HOTONE effects. These include various types of drive, dynamics, filters, modulation, delay, and reverb.
  • Looper: Activate the looper function to record and layer up to 100 seconds of audio.
  • Drum Machine: Utilize the built-in drum machine with 100 patterns for practice or creative inspiration.

4. Connectivity

The Ampero One offers a variety of input and output options for seamless integration into your setup.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the power adapter is correctly connected to the unit and a working power outlet. Verify the adapter specifications match the device requirements (9V DC).
  • No Sound Output: Check all cable connections (instrument, output to amp/mixer, headphones). Ensure the master volume knob on the Ampero One is turned up. Verify that the selected preset is active and not muted.
  • Distorted Sound: Check input gain levels to prevent clipping. Adjust effect parameters, especially drive and volume settings within individual effects, to avoid excessive distortion.
  • USB Connection Issues: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the Ampero One and your computer. Try a different USB port or cable. Install the latest drivers and software from the HOTONE website.
  • Footswitch Malfunction: If a footswitch is unresponsive, ensure it is clean and free from debris. If the issue persists, a factory reset or firmware update might be necessary.
