3. Product Overview

3.1 Front Panel

4. Hardware Installation

  2. Connect DSL: Connect one end of the RJ11 DSL cable to the DSL port on the modem router and the other end to the DSL splitter. Then, connect the splitter to your telephone wall jack.
  3. Connect Ethernet (Optional): For a wired connection, connect one end of the RJ45 Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the modem router and the other end to your computer's Ethernet port.
  4. Connect Power: Connect the power adapter to the modem router's power port and plug the other end into a power outlet.
  5. Power On: Press the Power button (if available) or wait for the modem router to power on automatically. Wait for the DSL and Internet LEDs to become stable, indicating a successful connection.

5. Setup

After hardware installation, proceed with the initial configuration:

  1. Access Web Management Interface: Open a web browser on a device connected to the modem router (wired or wirelessly). Type http://tplinkmodem.net or http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Login: Use the default username and password (usually admin for both, or as printed on the label on the bottom of the device).
  3. Run Quick Setup: Follow the on-screen instructions of the Quick Setup wizard. This will guide you through setting up your internet connection (VDSL/ADSL settings) and wireless network (Wi-Fi name and password).
  4. Tether App Setup: Alternatively, download the TP-Link Tether app on your smartphone (available for iOS and Android). The app provides an intuitive way to set up and manage your modem router.

6. Operating

Once configured, you can manage various aspects of your network:

6.1 Wireless Settings

From the web management interface or Tether app, you can:

  • Change Wi-Fi names (SSIDs) and passwords for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.
  • Enable/disable guest networks.
  • Configure wireless security protocols (WPA/WPA2).
  • Utilize MU-MIMO technology for improved performance with multiple devices.

6.2 USB Features

The USB 3.0 port offers several functionalities:

  • Storage Sharing: Connect a USB storage device to share files across your network.
  • 3G/4G Dongle Backup: Plug in a compatible 3G/4G USB dongle to serve as a backup internet connection in case your primary DSL connection fails.

7. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and security:

7.1 Firmware Upgrade

It is recommended to keep your modem router's firmware updated to benefit from new features, bug fixes, and security enhancements.

  1. Visit the TP-Link official website (www.tp-link.com) and navigate to the support page for Archer VR2100.
  2. Download the latest firmware file.
  3. Access the web management interface, go to System Tools > Firmware Upgrade, and follow the instructions to upload the new firmware. Do not power off the device during the upgrade process.

7.2 Backup & Restore

  • Wi-Fi Disconnections/Slow Speed: Ensure your device is within range. Try changing Wi-Fi channels or adjusting antenna positions. Reduce interference from other electronic devices.
  • Cannot Access Web Management Page: Verify your device is connected to the modem router. Try clearing your browser's cache or using a different browser. Ensure your computer's IP settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically.
  • Forgot Login Password: Use the Reset button on the rear panel to restore factory default settings. Note that this will erase all your custom configurations.
