2. What's in the Box

Carefully unpack all components and verify that all items listed below are present and undamaged.

  • 1x Amtrak(c) ICE 3 with 2 End Units and 2 Cars
  • 12 x 55412 Curved Roadbed Track R2, 422 mm
  • 5 x 55401 Roadbed Straight Track, 231 mm
  • 1 x 55406 Straight Track for Connection Clip, 239 mm
  • 1 x 55270 Connection Clip
  • 1 x 55447 Socket for Connection Clip
  • 1 x Speed Controller
  • 1 x Power Supply

3. Setup Instructions

  1. Track Assembly: Lay out the track sections on a flat, stable surface. Connect the curved and straight roadbed track pieces by aligning the connectors and pressing them firmly together until they click into place. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent derailments.
  2. Power Connection: Locate the 55406 Straight Track for Connection Clip and the 55447 Socket for Connection Clip. Attach the 55270 Connection Clip to the designated points on the track. Insert the connection clip into the socket. Connect the power supply to the speed controller, and then connect the speed controller to the track socket. Plug the power supply into a suitable electrical outlet.
  3. Train Placement: Carefully place the ICE 3 train (2 end units and 2 cars) onto the assembled track. Ensure all wheels are properly seated on the rails. The train should be placed with the pantographs (if present) facing the correct direction of travel as indicated in the train's specific markings.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Once the track and train are set up and the power supply is connected, turn on the power switch on the speed controller.
  2. Speed Control: Slowly turn the knob on the speed controller. The train will begin to move. Turning the knob clockwise typically increases speed, while counter-clockwise decreases it.
  3. Direction Change: Most speed controllers have a direction switch. Flip this switch to change the direction of the train's movement. It is recommended to bring the train to a complete stop before changing direction to prevent damage.
  4. Stopping the Train: Turn the speed controller knob fully counter-clockwise to bring the train to a stop. Turn off the power switch on the speed controller when not in use.

5. Maintenance

  • Track Cleaning: Regularly clean the track rails with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove dust and debris. For stubborn dirt, use a specialized track cleaning fluid. Clean tracks ensure good electrical contact and smooth operation.
  • Train Cleaning: Gently wipe the train body with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Periodically check the wheels for any accumulated dirt or hair and carefully remove it.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the train set in its original packaging or a clean, dry, dust-free environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Train Not Moving:
    • Ensure the power supply is plugged in and the speed controller is switched on.
    • Check all track connections for tightness.
    • Verify the train's wheels are properly on the rails and clean.
    • Ensure the connection clip and socket are correctly installed and making contact.
  • Train Derails:
    • Check track connections for any gaps or misalignments.
    • Ensure the track surface is flat and stable.
    • Reduce train speed, especially on curves.
    • Inspect train wheels for damage or debris.
  • Intermittent Operation:
    • Clean the track rails and train wheels thoroughly.
    • Check for loose wiring connections between the power supply, speed controller, and track.
