Setup and First Use
Before using your Posca marker for the first time, or after a period of disuse, follow these steps to prepare the pen for optimal ink flow:
- Shake the Marker: With the cap securely on, shake the marker vigorously up and down. This action mixes the pigment ink inside the barrel, ensuring consistent color.
- Prime the Tip: Press the bullet-shaped tip several times on a spare piece of paper. Continue pressing until the tip becomes saturated with paint. This process primes the ink flow.
- Test the Flow: Once the tip is saturated, test the marker on a spare piece of paper. If the line is clear and consistent, your Posca marker is ready for use.

Operating Instructions
The uni-ball Posca 5M marker pen is designed for versatile use on a wide range of surfaces. Its water-based pigment ink is lightfast, water-resistant, and non-toxic.
Recommended Surfaces:
- Porous Surfaces: Paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, stone, pottery.
- Non-Porous Surfaces: Glass, plastic, metal, ceramic, vinyl.
For best results on non-porous surfaces, allow adequate drying time between layers and for the final artwork. The ink is permanent on porous surfaces and removable from most non-porous surfaces with a damp cloth.

Application Tips:
- Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application.
- For opaque coverage, apply multiple layers once the previous layer is dry.
- The bullet-shaped tip (1.8-2.5 mm) is suitable for both fine lines and broader strokes.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and consistent performance of your uni-ball Posca marker.
- Recap After Use: Always replace the cap securely after each use. This prevents the ink from drying out and protects the tip.
- Store Horizontally: Store markers horizontally to keep the ink evenly distributed and prevent the tip from drying or becoming oversaturated.
- Clean the Tip: If the tip becomes clogged or dirty, remove it gently and rinse with water. Allow it to dry completely before reinserting.
- Shake Regularly: Even if not in immediate use, occasionally shake the marker to keep the pigment well-mixed.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Posca marker, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No Ink Flow / Dry Tip | Ensure the marker is shaken thoroughly with the cap on. Then, press the tip repeatedly on a scrap piece of paper until ink flows. If the tip is dry, remove and rinse with water, then re-prime. |
| Inconsistent Line / Fading Ink | Shake the marker again to redistribute the pigment. Re-prime the tip by pressing it on paper. Ensure the surface is clean and non-greasy. |
| Tip Damage | Posca tips are often reversible or replaceable. Check if the tip can be flipped or if replacement tips are available from the manufacturer. |
