1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the blumfeldt Savage Fire Pit and Barbecue. This versatile outdoor product is designed to provide both a cozy fire pit experience and a functional barbecue grill. To ensure safe and optimal use, please read this instruction manual thoroughly before assembly and operation. Keep this manual for future reference.

The blumfeldt Savage is constructed from durable, rust-colored alloy steel, making it resistant to water and frost. It is suitable for use with firewood or charcoal.

2. Safety Instructions

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in fire, injury, or property damage.

  • Outdoor Use Only: This fire pit and barbecue is intended for outdoor use only. Do not use indoors or in enclosed spaces.
  • Stable Surface: Always place the unit on a stable, level, non-combustible surface, such as concrete, stone, or brick. Do not place on wooden decks, grass, or other flammable materials.
  • Clearance: Maintain a safe distance of at least 3 meters (10 feet) from combustible materials, buildings, trees, and other structures.
  • Supervision: Never leave a burning fire pit unattended. Always supervise children and pets around the unit.
  • Fuel Type: Use only dry firewood or charcoal as fuel. Do not use gasoline, kerosene, lighter fluid, or other flammable liquids to start or rekindle a fire.
  • Hot Surfaces: The fire pit and its components will become extremely hot during use. Do not touch hot surfaces with bare hands. Use heat-resistant gloves and appropriate tools.
  • Extinguishing Fire: Allow the fire to burn down naturally. Do not use water to extinguish the fire, as this can cause steam burns and damage the unit. Ensure all embers are completely extinguished before leaving the unit unattended.
  • Weather Protection: Use the provided weather cover to protect the unit from rain and wind when not in use.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow for proper combustion. Do not block the bottom of the fire bowl.

4. Assembly and Setup

  1. Unpack: Remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Position: Place the fire bowl on a stable, level, non-flammable surface in your desired outdoor location, ensuring adequate clearance from combustible materials.
  3. Insert Coal Grate: Place the coal grate inside the fire bowl at the bottom. This allows for proper airflow and ash collection.
  4. Add Grill Components (Optional): For barbecue use, place the grill ring on top of the fire bowl. The grill grate can then be placed in the center of the grill ring.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. As a Fire Pit

  1. Ensure the coal grate is in place at the bottom of the fire bowl.
  2. Place dry firewood or logs onto the coal grate. Start with smaller kindling and gradually add larger pieces.
  3. Ignite the kindling using a fire starter. Do not use flammable liquids.
  4. Once the fire is established, add more wood as needed, ensuring not to overload the bowl.
  5. Enjoy the warmth and ambiance of the open fire. Always supervise the fire.

5.2. As a Barbecue

  1. Ensure the coal grate is in place.
  2. Place charcoal briquettes or small pieces of firewood onto the coal grate.
  3. Ignite the fuel and allow it to burn until the charcoal is covered with a light gray ash, or the wood has formed hot embers.
  4. Carefully place the enameled grill ring onto the fire bowl. Then, place the enameled grill grate into the center opening of the grill ring.
  5. Place food directly on the grill grate or on the grill ring for cooking.
  6. After cooking, allow the unit to cool completely before cleaning.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

  1. Allow the fire pit and all components to cool down completely before cleaning.
  2. Remove any ash and unburnt fuel from the fire bowl and coal grate. Dispose of ash safely.
  3. Clean the enameled grill ring and grill grate with warm soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge or brush. The smooth enamel surfaces facilitate easy cleaning. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
  4. Wipe the fire bowl with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as this may damage the rust-colored finish.

6.2. Storage

  • When not in use, especially during adverse weather conditions or prolonged storage, cover the fire pit with the provided weather cover.
  • Store the unit in a dry, protected area to prolong its lifespan.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Difficulty Starting Fire: Ensure fuel (wood or charcoal) is dry. Check for adequate airflow around the fuel. Use appropriate kindling or fire starters.
  • Uneven Heat Distribution (Barbecue): Adjust the placement of charcoal or wood to ensure even heat under the grill components. Allow sufficient time for coals to heat up evenly.
  • Excessive Smoke: Use dry, seasoned wood. Wet or green wood will produce more smoke. Ensure proper airflow.
