1. Introduction

The Smoby Kidcorder is an intuitive and durable recording device designed to encourage creativity and curiosity in young children from 12 months of age. It allows toddlers to record voices, sounds, and songs, and play them back independently. This manual provides essential information for safe and effective use of your Kidcorder.

2. Safety Information

• Always supervise children during use.
• Do not immerse the device in water or other liquids.
• Keep away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight.
• Batteries should be installed and replaced by an adult. Do not mix old and new batteries, or different types of batteries.
• Dispose of batteries responsibly according to local regulations.
• Regularly inspect the device for any damage. Discontinue use if damaged.

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment on the back or bottom of the Kidcorder.
2. Using a small screwdriver (not included), unscrew the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert 3 x LR6 (AA) batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Replace the cover and secure it with the screw.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Recording

1. Press and hold the large red REC button for approximately 3 seconds until the indicator light flashes.
2. Select one of the 9 numbered buttons (1-9) to assign your recording to that track.
3. Speak clearly into the microphone or place the Kidcorder near the sound source you wish to record.
4. To stop recording, press the large red REC button again. The indicator light will stop flashing.
5. Tip: For optimal sound quality, ensure the microphone is not covered and the sound source is within a reasonable distance.

5.2 Playback

1. Press the numbered button (1-9) corresponding to the track you wish to play back.
2. The Kidcorder will play the recorded sound from that track.
3. To stop playback, press the same numbered button again or the REC button.
4. Note: The Kidcorder allows for repeated playback, enabling children to listen to their creations multiple times.

5.3 Protecting Recordings

To prevent accidental deletion of a recording, press and hold button 9 for 5 seconds. This will protect all current recordings. To disable protection, locate the hidden switch underneath the device and toggle it. Be aware that disabling this switch will remove all recording protections.

5.4 Continuous Playback

To play all recorded tracks sequentially, press and hold button 1 for 5 seconds. The Kidcorder will cycle through all recorded messages.

6. Maintenance

• Clean the Kidcorder with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• If the device becomes dirty, a slightly damp cloth can be used, but ensure no moisture enters the electronic components.
• Store the Kidcorder in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight when not in use.
• Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
