Operating Instructions
Initial Startup:
After plugging in the freezer, set the thermostat knob to "4" for the first 24 hours. This allows the unit to reach optimal operating temperature before loading with food.
Temperature Control:
The mechanical temperature control knob is located at the back of the unit. It offers seven temperature settings:
- "1" is the warmest setting.
- "7" is the coldest setting.
- Temperature range: -4°F (-20°C) to 6.8°F (-14°C).
Adjust the knob to your desired setting after the initial 24-hour period. For general use, a setting between "3" and "5" is often sufficient.

Maintenance
Cleaning:
- Always unplug the freezer before cleaning.
- Clean the interior with a solution of baking soda and warm water (2 tablespoons baking soda to 1 quart water).
- Clean the exterior with a mild detergent and warm water.
- Regularly vacuum the condenser coils at the back of the unit to maintain efficiency.
Manual Defrost:
This freezer features manual defrost. Frost buildup can reduce efficiency and storage space. Defrost the unit when frost accumulation reaches about 1/4 inch thick.
- Unplug the freezer.
- Remove all food items and store them in another freezer or cooler.
- Leave the door open to allow frost to melt naturally. You can place towels at the bottom to absorb water.
- Do not use sharp objects or heating devices to remove frost, as this can damage the unit.
- Once defrosted, clean and dry the interior thoroughly before plugging it back in and returning food.
Troubleshooting
Before contacting customer service, please check the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Freezer does not operate. | Not plugged in; circuit breaker tripped; temperature control set to "OFF". | Ensure plug is secure; reset breaker; turn temperature control to a numbered setting. |
| Temperature is not cold enough. | Door opened too frequently; large amount of warm food added; poor air circulation; temperature control set too warm. | Minimize door openings; allow new food to cool before adding; ensure proper clearance; adjust control to a colder setting. |
| Freezer makes unusual noises. | Unit not level; loose parts; normal operating sounds (gurgling, popping). | Level the unit using adjustable feet; check for loose items; these sounds are normal. |
| Excessive frost buildup. | Door not sealed properly; frequent door openings; high humidity. | Check door gasket for proper seal; reduce door openings; perform manual defrost. |
If the problem persists after checking these points, please contact hOmeLabs customer support.
