3. Setup Guide
3.1 Initial Ink Filling
The EcoTank Pro ET-5800 uses a cartridge-free ink system. Follow these steps to fill the ink tanks:
- Open the ink tank unit cover on the side of the printer.
- Open the cap for the black ink tank.
- Uncap the black ink bottle (542 Black). The bottles are uniquely keyed to fit only the correct color tank, preventing accidental filling errors.
- Insert the ink bottle into the filling port. The ink will automatically flow into the tank. Do not squeeze the bottle.
- Once the tank is full, the ink flow will stop automatically. Remove the bottle and securely close the tank cap.
- Repeat the process for the Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow ink tanks using their respective 542 ink bottles.
- Close the ink tank unit cover.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Ink Refilling
Monitor ink levels through the transparent ink tanks on the front of the printer. When an ink tank is low, refill it using genuine Epson 542 ink bottles as described in the "Initial Ink Filling" section (Section 3.1). Only use genuine Epson ink to ensure optimal performance and prevent damage.
5.2 Cleaning
- Print Head Cleaning: If print quality declines (e.g., missing lines, streaking), perform a print head cleaning from the printer's maintenance menu on the touchscreen.
- Scanner Glass Cleaning: Regularly clean the scanner glass and the ADF rollers with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a mild glass cleaner to prevent streaks on scanned documents.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your printer, try the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Ensure the power cord is securely connected to both the printer and a working electrical outlet.
- Connectivity Issues: Verify Wi-Fi connection status on the printer's touchscreen and your device. For wired connections, check Ethernet cable. Restarting the printer and router can often resolve network problems.
- Paper Jams: Follow the on-screen instructions to clear any paper jams. Always remove jammed paper carefully to avoid tearing.
- Poor Print Quality: Perform a print head nozzle check and cleaning cycle from the maintenance menu. Ensure genuine Epson ink is used and that paper settings match the loaded paper type.
- Scanner Not Working: Check that the scanner lid is fully closed and that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
For more detailed troubleshooting, refer to the comprehensive user guide on the Epson support website or the digital manual on the included CD-ROM.
