1. Powering On and Battery Installation

The Logitech K580 keyboard typically comes with pre-installed batteries. If not, or if you need to replace them, locate the battery compartment on the underside of the keyboard. It uses 2 AAA batteries. Ensure correct polarity when inserting new batteries.

2. Connecting Your Keyboard

The K580 offers two connection methods: the USB receiver (Logi Bolt) or Bluetooth.

Option A: Using the USB Receiver

  1. Locate the USB receiver stored in the keyboard's phone cradle.
  2. Plug the USB receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
  3. Turn on the keyboard using the power switch located on the side.
  4. The keyboard should automatically connect to your computer. The Easy-Switch button 1 or 2 will light up solid white for 5 seconds to confirm connection.

Option B: Using Bluetooth

  1. Turn on the keyboard using the power switch.
  2. Press and hold an Easy-Switch button (1 or 2) for three seconds until the LED starts blinking rapidly. This indicates the keyboard is in pairing mode.
  3. On your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone), open Bluetooth settings.
  4. Select "Logitech K580" from the list of available devices.
  5. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the pairing process. The LED on the Easy-Switch button will turn solid white for 5 seconds when connected.

Operating Instructions

Switching Between Devices

The K580 keyboard allows you to connect to two different devices and switch between them instantly. Once paired, simply press the Easy-Switch button (1 or 2) corresponding to the device you wish to use. The LED on the selected button will light up to confirm the active connection.

Chrome OS Specific Keys

The K580 is optimized for Chrome OS, featuring dedicated keys for common functions:

  • Search/Launcher Key: Access the Chrome OS launcher or search function.
  • Google Assistant Key: Activate Google Assistant for voice commands and queries.
  • Media Control Keys: Play/pause, volume up/down, mute, and track navigation.
  • Window Control Keys: Full-screen, overview, and refresh.

Using the Integrated Phone Cradle

The built-in cradle provides a convenient stand for your smartphone or tablet, allowing you to view content on your mobile device while typing on the K580. Simply place your device into the slot. Note that some thicker phone cases may not fit perfectly in the cradle.

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Keyboard

To maintain your keyboard's appearance and functionality, regularly clean it with a soft, lint-free cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Do not pry keys with fingers or sharp objects, as this can damage the keyboard.

Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator light on your keyboard begins to flash, it's time to replace the batteries. The K580 uses 2 AAA batteries. To replace them, slide open the battery compartment cover located on the underside of the keyboard. Remove the old batteries and insert new ones, ensuring correct polarity. Close the cover securely.

Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not connecting via Bluetooth or USB receiver:
    • Ensure the keyboard is powered on and the batteries are not depleted.
    • For Bluetooth, make sure the keyboard is in pairing mode (blinking LED on Easy-Switch button).
    • For USB receiver, try plugging the receiver into a different USB port on your computer.
    • Try restarting your device (computer, tablet, or smartphone).
    • If previously paired, remove the keyboard from your device's Bluetooth list and attempt to re-pair.
  • No Caps Lock key / Caps Lock functionality:

The Logitech K580 for Chrome OS replaces the traditional Caps Lock key with a Chrome OS Menu button. To enable Caps Lock, press the Alt + Search/Launcher keys simultaneously. A notification will appear on your screen indicating Caps Lock is on or off. This is a standard Chrome OS behavior.

  • Phone/Tablet does not fit in the integrated cradle:

The cradle is designed for a slim fit. If your device has a thick case, it may not fit securely. Consider removing the case or using the cradle for other small items like pens or business cards.

  • Keys are unresponsive or sticky:
    • Check battery level and replace if necessary.
    • Clean around the affected keys to remove any debris.
    • Ensure the keyboard is within range of your device (up to 32.81 ft / 10 meters).
