1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient installation, operation, and maintenance of your Everbilt 1/3 HP Submersible Aluminum Sump Pump, Model HDPS33W. Please read all instructions carefully before use to ensure proper function and to prevent injury or damage.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of Electric Shock. This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and grounding-type attachment plug. To reduce the risk of electric shock, be certain that it is connected only to a properly grounded, grounding-type receptacle.
- Always disconnect power to the pump before handling, servicing, or performing any maintenance.
- Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged.
- Ensure the electrical circuit is protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI).
- Do not use the pump in applications involving flammable or explosive liquids.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, during installation and maintenance.
- This pump is designed for clear water only. Do not use for sewage or other hazardous liquids.
3. Product Overview
The Everbilt 1/3 HP Submersible Sump Pump is designed for efficient water removal from residential sump basins. It features a durable aluminum motor housing for effective heat dissipation and a tethered float switch for automatic operation. The pump is capable of handling 3/8 inch solids.

4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
Before beginning installation, ensure you have the following items (some sold separately):

- Safety Goggles
- Screwdrivers (Phillips & Flat Head)
- Hand Hacksaw or PVC Cutter
- Wrench
- PVC Primer
- PVC Cement
- Thread Tape
- 1-1/4 in. or 1-1/2 in. Discharge Pipe
- 1-1/4 in. or 1-1/2 in. Check Valve
- 1-1/4 in. or 1-1/2 in. 90° Elbow
4.2 Sump Basin Requirements
The pump requires a minimum 18-inch diameter sump basin for proper operation of the tethered float switch.
4.3 Discharge Pipe Connection
- Connect a 1-1/2 inch FNPT discharge pipe to the pump's outlet. Use thread tape on the pipe threads to ensure a watertight seal.
- Install a check valve in the discharge line to prevent water from flowing back into the sump basin when the pump turns off.
- Route the discharge pipe away from the foundation to prevent water recirculation.
4.4 Electrical Connection
- Ensure the power supply is 115 Volts, AC.
- Plug the pump's 8.25 ft. power cord into a properly grounded 3-prong GFCI outlet. Do not use extension cords.
- Ensure the power cord is routed to prevent damage and does not interfere with the float switch operation.
4.5 Float Switch Adjustment
The tethered float switch must be able to move freely without obstruction. Adjust the tether length to set the desired ON and OFF levels for the pump. Ensure the float does not touch the sides of the sump basin or any pipes.
5. Operation
The Everbilt sump pump operates automatically via its tethered float switch. When water in the sump basin rises and lifts the float to the 'ON' position, the pump will activate and begin discharging water. Once the water level drops and the float returns to the 'OFF' position, the pump will shut off. This pump features a continuous duty, efficient 115-Volt PSC motor.
5.1 Initial Start-Up
After installation, fill the sump basin with water to verify the float switch activates the pump and that water is discharged correctly. Check for any leaks in the discharge piping.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your sump pump.
- Monthly Inspection: Periodically check the sump basin for debris that could obstruct the pump or float switch. Remove any dirt, gravel, or other foreign objects.
- Float Switch Check: Manually lift the float switch to ensure it moves freely and activates the pump.
- Impeller Cleaning: If the pump's performance decreases, disconnect power and inspect the semi-open thermoplastic impeller for clogs. Clear any debris carefully.
- Discharge Line: Ensure the discharge line is free of obstructions and that the check valve is functioning correctly.
- Power Cord: Inspect the power cord for any signs of damage or wear. Replace if necessary.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not start | No power to pump Float switch obstructed Thermal overload activated | Check power supply and GFCI Clear obstruction around float Allow pump to cool down, then reset |
| Pump runs continuously | Float switch stuck in 'ON' position Check valve faulty or missing | Clear obstruction around float Install or replace check valve |
| Reduced water flow | Discharge pipe obstructed Impeller clogged Low voltage | Clear discharge pipe Clean impeller (disconnect power first) Verify proper voltage supply |
| Pump cycles too frequently | Float switch set too low Water returning from discharge line | Adjust float switch tether Install or check check valve |
