3. Setup
3.1. Powering the Device
The iRig Pro Duo I/O can be powered in three ways:
- USB Bus Power: Connect the interface to your computer (Mac/PC) or compatible mobile device using the appropriate USB cable.
- AA Batteries: Insert two AA batteries into the battery compartment on the underside of the unit. This is ideal for mobile use with devices that do not provide bus power.

3.2. Connecting to Devices
Use the provided cables to connect your iRig Pro Duo I/O to your recording device:
- iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad): Use the Lightning to Micro-USB cable.
- Android Devices: Use the USB-C to Micro-USB cable.
- Mac/PC: Use either the USB-C to Micro-USB or USB-A to Micro-USB cable depending on your computer's ports.

3.3. Connecting Microphones and Instruments
The iRig Pro Duo I/O features two Neutrik analog inputs (combo XLR/TRS jacks) that accept both XLR and 1/4" TRS/TS connections. These inputs are suitable for microphones, guitars, basses, keyboards, and other line-level instruments.
- Connect your microphones via XLR cables to inputs 1 and 2.
- Connect instruments (guitars, basses) or line-level sources via 1/4" TS/TRS cables to inputs 1 and 2.

3.4. Connecting Headphones and Monitors
For monitoring your audio, the iRig Pro Duo I/O provides a headphone output and balanced line outputs.
- Headphones: Plug your headphones into the 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone jack on the side of the unit.
- Studio Monitors: Connect your studio monitors to the two balanced 1/4" TRS outputs (Left and Right) on the back of the unit.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1. Gain Control
Each input (1 and 2) has a dedicated gain knob on the top panel. Rotate these knobs clockwise to increase the input gain for your connected microphone or instrument. Adjust the gain to achieve an optimal signal level without clipping (distortion).

4.2. Phantom Power (48V)
For condenser microphones that require external power, activate the +48V phantom power switch located on the side of the unit. Ensure your microphone supports phantom power before enabling this feature.
4.3. Direct Monitoring
The direct monitor switch on the side of the unit allows you to hear your input signal directly through your headphones or monitors with zero latency. This is useful for monitoring your performance without delay from your recording software. Toggle the switch to 'ON' for direct monitoring or 'OFF' to monitor through your software.
4.4. MIDI Connectivity
The iRig Pro Duo I/O functions as a full-fledged MIDI interface. Use the included MIDI breakout cables to connect external MIDI devices (keyboards, controllers, drum machines) to the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT jacks on the back of the unit. This enables MIDI data transmission between your devices and your connected computer or mobile device.
5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning
To maintain the longevity and appearance of your iRig Pro Duo I/O, regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish and internal components.
5.2. Storage
When not in use, store the iRig Pro Duo I/O in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Disconnect all cables and remove AA batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent battery leakage.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your iRig Pro Duo I/O, consider the following common solutions:
- No Power: Ensure the unit is properly connected via USB or that fresh AA batteries are installed. If using an optional PSU, verify it is correctly connected and functioning.
- No Audio Input: Check all cable connections (microphones, instruments, USB). Verify that the input gain knobs are turned up and that phantom power is enabled for condenser microphones if needed. Ensure the correct input is selected in your recording software.
- No Audio Output: Check headphone and monitor connections. Verify the volume controls on the iRig Pro Duo I/O and your connected device/software are not muted or too low. Ensure the correct output device is selected in your system's audio settings.
- Distorted Audio: Reduce the input gain to prevent clipping. Check for damaged cables.
- MIDI Issues: Ensure MIDI breakout cables are correctly connected (IN to OUT, OUT to IN). Verify MIDI settings in your software and on your MIDI device.
- Software/Driver Issues: Ensure you have the latest drivers installed for your operating system (Windows requires a specific iRig audio driver). Check for software updates for your recording applications.
