1. Introduction
The Supco TD68 is a Delay on Make Timer designed to protect compressors in HVAC systems. This device introduces a timed delay before allowing the compressor to start, preventing short cycling and potential damage. It is suitable for a wide range of voltage applications and offers an adjustable delay period.

Figure 1: Supco TD68 Time Delay Break Compressor Protector. This image displays the Supco TD68 unit, a black rectangular device with a rotary knob for delay adjustment, and its packaging. The packaging lists model numbers in the TD60 series, their delay periods, and connection types. It also highlights the input voltage range and important usage notes.
2. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of the TD68. Ensure power is disconnected before beginning installation.
2.1 Electrical Connections
- The TD68 features two 1/4" male quick connect terminals for electrical connections.
- Connect the input power (19 to 250 Volts AC or DC, 1 Amp Max) to the designated input terminals.
- Connect the load (compressor control circuit) to the output terminals.
2.2 Voltage Selection
The unit is designed for broad voltage compatibility. For operation with 120/240 Volts, a specific jumper on the unit must be cut. Refer to the product label for the exact location and instructions for cutting the jumper.
2.3 Delay Adjustment
The TD68 features an adjustable delay period ranging from 6 seconds to 8 minutes. Use the rotary knob on the unit to set the desired delay time. Rotate the knob clockwise to increase the delay and counter-clockwise to decrease it.
2.4 Important Installation Note
The Supco TD68 is not designed for use with a cooling anticipator. Attempting to use it with a cooling anticipator may result in improper operation or damage to the system.
3. Operating Instructions
Once installed and the delay period is set, the TD68 operates automatically. When power is applied to the input, the timer will begin its countdown. After the set delay period has elapsed, the unit will close its internal contacts, allowing power to flow to the connected load (e.g., compressor contactor). If power is interrupted and then restored, the delay cycle will restart.
4. Maintenance
The Supco TD68 is designed for reliable, maintenance-free operation. However, periodic inspection of the electrical connections for tightness and signs of corrosion is recommended. Ensure the unit remains free from excessive dust or moisture.
5. Troubleshooting
If the TD68 is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- No Delay: Verify the delay adjustment knob is not set to its minimum position. Check for proper voltage supply.
- No Load Activation: Ensure input power is present and within the specified range. Check all electrical connections for security. Confirm the internal jumper is correctly configured for the operating voltage.
- Intermittent Operation: Inspect wiring for loose connections or damage. Ensure the unit is not exposed to extreme temperatures or humidity.
If issues persist, consult a qualified HVAC technician.
