4. Setup and Assembly
This model is a kit and requires complete assembly. Follow the detailed, step-by-step instructions provided in the included assembly manual. The following is a general overview of the assembly process.
Assembly Steps Overview:
- Chassis Assembly: Begin by assembling the TT-01E chassis. This involves building the gearbox, installing the drive shafts, and assembling the suspension arms and shock absorbers.
- Motor and ESC Installation: Mount the Torque-Tuned motor into the chassis. Connect the TBLE-02S ESC to the motor and ensure proper wiring for the battery and receiver.
- Steering Servo Installation: Install your chosen steering servo into the designated location on the chassis and connect it to the steering linkage.
- Radio System Setup: Install your receiver into the chassis. Connect the steering servo and ESC to the appropriate channels on the receiver. Refer to your radio system's manual for binding procedures.
- Wheel and Tire Assembly: Assemble the special truck rims with the profiled tires. Mount them onto the chassis.
- Body Preparation and Painting: Carefully cut out the polycarbonate body parts. Wash the body with mild soap and water to remove any mold release agents. Mask off windows and other areas not to be painted. Apply polycarbonate-specific paint (Tamiya PS series recommended) to the inside of the body. Apply multiple thin coats for best results.
- Decal Application: Once the paint is dry, apply the included decals to the outside of the body according to the manual's guide for a realistic finish.
- Final Body Assembly: Attach mirrors, light buckets (if using optional LEDs), and other scale details to the body. Mount the completed body onto the chassis using the body posts.
Tip: Take your time during assembly. Use thread-locking compound on metal-to-metal screws where indicated in the manual to prevent loosening from vibrations.
5. Operating Your RC Truck
Once assembled and all electronics are connected, you are ready to operate your Tamiya RC truck.
Pre-Operation Checklist:
- Ensure the battery pack is fully charged.
- Check all screws and connections for tightness.
- Verify that the transmitter batteries are fresh.
- Confirm that the steering and throttle trims on your transmitter are centered.
Starting Procedure:
- Turn on your transmitter first.
- Connect the fully charged battery pack to the ESC in the RC truck.
- Turn on the power switch on the ESC. You should hear a series of beeps, indicating it's ready.
- Test the steering and throttle response. If the steering is reversed or off-center, adjust the servo reverse switch or trim on your transmitter.
Driving Tips:
- Start with gentle throttle inputs to get a feel for the truck's response.
- Practice steering in wide turns before attempting tighter maneuvers.
- Avoid driving in wet conditions, deep puddles, or extremely dusty environments, as this can damage electronics.
- Monitor battery life. When the truck starts to slow down significantly, it's time to recharge the battery.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Tamiya RC truck.
After Each Run:
- Clean the Truck: Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dirt, dust, and debris from the chassis, suspension, and body. A damp cloth can be used for the body, but avoid getting electronics wet.
- Inspect for Damage: Check for any loose screws, bent parts, or damaged components. Address any issues promptly.
- Battery Care: Disconnect and properly store the battery. If using NiMH, allow it to cool before recharging.
Periodic Maintenance (Every 5-10 Runs):
- Check Gear Mesh: Ensure the motor pinion gear and spur gear have proper mesh to prevent premature wear.
- Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply a small amount of appropriate grease or oil to moving parts like universal joints, dogbones, and bearings (if applicable). Avoid over-lubrication.
- Inspect Tires: Check for wear and tear on the tires. Replace if significantly worn for optimal traction.
- Clean Bearings: If your model uses ball bearings, periodically clean and re-lubricate them.
