4. Setup and First Use

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all packaging materials and promotional labels from your coffeemaker. Keep packaging for future storage or shipping.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Wash the carafe and its lid, and the reusable filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Install Water Filter: Unwrap the small oval water filter and press it into its holder at the base of the plastic wand. Insert the wand into the open corner of the water reservoir, ensuring it slips snugly into the hole at the bottom.
  4. First Clean Cycle: Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark with plain water. Do not add coffee grounds. Run two full brewing cycles with plain water to flush out any manufacturing residues and charcoal dust from the water filter.
  5. Set the Clock: Plug in the coffeemaker. The touchscreen will illuminate. Touch the 'HR' and 'MIN' icons to set the current time.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Brewing

  1. Fill Water Reservoir: Open the top lid of the coffeemaker. Using the glass carafe or a separate container with a pour spout, fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of fresh, cold water. Use the clear plastic window indicator on the side of the coffeemaker to measure cups. Avoid overfilling past the 14-cup line.
  2. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the reusable mesh filter or a #4 cone paper filter into the filter basket. Add the desired amount of ground coffee. For best results, use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per cup. Close the top lid securely.
  3. Start Brewing: Touch the power icon on the touchscreen to wake up the display. Press the 'BREW/OFF' icon to begin the brewing cycle. The coffeemaker will automatically start brewing.

5.2 Programmable Features

The DCC-T20 features a full touchscreen control panel. When the coffeemaker is not in use, the LCD screen goes to sleep. Simply touch the power icon to activate the screen and access the following settings:

  • Ready Alert Tone (TONE): Enable or disable the audible alert that sounds when brewing is complete. Touch the 'TONE' icon to toggle.

5.3 Brew Pause Feature

The coffeemaker is equipped with a Brew Pause feature, allowing you to temporarily remove the carafe during the brewing cycle to pour a cup of coffee. The flow of coffee will automatically stop. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow from the filter basket.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

6.1 Daily Cleaning

  • Always unplug the coffeemaker before cleaning.
  • Wash the glass carafe and its lid, and the reusable filter basket after each use in warm, soapy water. These parts are not dishwasher safe.
  • Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.

6.2 Descaling (Self-Clean Function)

Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffeemaker and affect its performance and coffee flavor. The 'CLEAN' function is designed to remove this buildup.

  1. Prepare Solution: Fill the water reservoir to the 14-cup mark with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
  2. Start Clean Cycle: Touch the power icon to wake the screen, then touch the 'CLEAN' icon. The clean indicator will illuminate.
  3. Complete Cycle: The coffeemaker will run a special cleaning cycle. Once complete, the clean indicator will turn off.
  4. Rinse: Run two to three full cycles with fresh, plain water to remove any residual vinegar taste.

Perform descaling approximately once a month, or more frequently if you have hard water.
