3. Setup and Installation
The EasyBaby Retractable Gate is a hardware-mounted gate and requires drilling for secure installation. It must be fitted between rigid, structurally sound surfaces such as plasterboard, timber, or hardwall.
- Choose Location: Select a suitable location for installation, such as top or bottom of stairways, doorways, or hallways. The gate can be used both indoors and outdoors.
- Measure Opening: Ensure the opening is within the gate's maximum width of 71 inches (180 cm). The gate is 39.3 inches (100 cm) tall.
- Position Templates: Use the provided installation guide templates to mark the drilling points for the gate housing and catch mounts. Ensure the gate is installed as close to the floor as possible.
- Account for Baseboards: If installing over skirting boards or baseboards, use the included wall spacers to ensure the mounting surfaces are flush and the gate operates correctly.
- Drill Pilot Holes:
- For timber surfaces, drill a 2.5mm pilot hole.
- For hardwall (masonry/concrete), drill a 5mm pilot hole and insert appropriate wall anchors (not always included, may need to be purchased separately if not suitable for provided screws).
Note: Some users have reported issues with the quality or length of included screws. Consider using higher-quality screws of appropriate length for your wall type to ensure a secure installation and prevent stripping.
- Mount Gate Housing: Securely attach the main gate housing to one side of the opening using the provided screws.
- Mount Catch Mounts: Securely attach the catch mounts to the opposite side of the opening, ensuring they align correctly with the gate's handle when extended.

5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the mesh barrier and plastic components with a damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals.
- Inspection: Regularly check all mounting hardware, screws, and the mesh barrier for any signs of wear, damage, or loosening. Tighten screws as needed.
- Relocation: An additional set of spare mounting brackets is included for convenient relocation of the gate to another suitable opening. Follow installation instructions when relocating.
6. Troubleshooting
- Gate does not lock securely: Ensure the orange knob is fully turned counter-clockwise after extending or retracting the gate. Check that the handle is properly seated in the catch mounts.
- Gate sags or does not extend smoothly: Verify that all mounting screws are tight and the gate housing and catch mounts are installed level and securely to rigid surfaces.
- Small children or pets can get under the gate: Ensure the gate is installed as close to the floor as possible. If baseboard spacers were used, confirm they are correctly installed to minimize gaps.
- Screws stripping during installation: This can occur with softer wall materials or if pilot holes are too small. Consider using higher-quality, appropriate screws for your wall type.
