1. Introduction and Overview
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your Intex 12-Foot by 30-Inch Metal Frame Above Ground Swimming Pool and the accompanying Intex Krystal Clear 530 GPH Cartridge Filter Pump (Model 28603EG). This pool is designed for recreational use and offers a durable, metal-framed structure. The included filter pump is crucial for maintaining water clarity and hygiene, featuring a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for enhanced safety.

The pool has a capacity of approximately 1,718 gallons of water. Its sturdy metal frame provides a more robust alternative to inflatable pools. The filter pump is compatible with various Intex above ground pools, including 8-foot, 10-foot, and 12-foot models, and other brands with 1.25-inch diameter hose connections.

2. Setup Instructions
Proper site preparation and assembly are critical for the longevity and safety of your pool. Ensure the chosen location is level, free of sharp objects, and has adequate drainage.
2.1 Site Preparation
- Select a firm, level surface for the pool. Uneven ground can cause the pool to collapse.
- Clear the area of any debris, rocks, or sharp objects that could puncture the liner.
- Consider placing a ground cloth or protective mat (not included) beneath the pool for added protection.
2.2 Pool Assembly
- Unfold the pool liner in the prepared area, ensuring the drain plug is positioned correctly for future draining.
- Assemble the metal frame components according to the manufacturer's instructions, carefully inserting the horizontal beams and vertical legs into the designated sleeves and connectors on the pool liner.
- Ensure all frame connections are secure and properly aligned.
2.3 Filter Pump Connection
The Krystal Clear 530 GPH Cartridge Filter Pump is designed to keep your pool water clean.

Figure 3: Intex Krystal Clear 530 GPH Cartridge Filter Pump.
- Position the filter pump on a stable, level surface at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from the pool.
- Connect the two hoses from the pool's inlet and outlet fittings to the corresponding ports on the filter pump. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Plug the pump into a 110-120V power outlet. The GFCI feature provides additional safety.

2.4 Filling the Pool
Once the pool frame and pump are assembled and connected, begin filling the pool with water. As the water level rises, smooth out any wrinkles in the pool liner from the center outwards. Stop filling when the water reaches the recommended fill line, typically just below the filter pump's upper inlet.
3. Operating the Filter Pump
The Krystal Clear 530 GPH Cartridge Filter Pump is designed for continuous operation to maintain water quality. It operates on a 110-120V power supply and includes a GFCI for safety.

Figure 5: Filter pump showing electrical and safety warnings.
- Ensure the pump is plugged into a functional GFCI-protected outlet.
- Open the air release valve on top of the filter pump to allow air to escape as the pump fills with water. Close the valve once a steady stream of water emerges.
- Turn on the pump. It is recommended to run the pump for several hours each day to ensure proper filtration. The exact duration depends on pool usage and environmental factors.
- The GFCI will automatically shut off the pump if an electrical current is exposed to water, providing an important safety feature.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for clean water and extending the life of your pool and pump.
4.1 Filter Cartridge Cleaning and Replacement
The filter pump uses a replaceable Type A filter cartridge (Intex 29000E). The cartridge should be cleaned regularly and replaced periodically.
- Turn off and unplug the filter pump before performing any maintenance.
- Close the plunger valves (if equipped) or use the stopper caps to prevent water flow from the pool.
- Unscrew the filter housing collar and remove the filter cartridge.
- Rinse the cartridge thoroughly with a garden hose to remove debris. If the cartridge remains dirty or discolored after rinsing, it should be replaced.
- Replace the cleaned or new cartridge, reassemble the filter housing, and open the plunger valves.
- Run the pump to resume filtration.
4.2 Water Chemistry
Maintain proper water chemistry by regularly testing and adjusting pH, chlorine, and alkalinity levels. Follow guidelines provided by pool chemical manufacturers.
4.3 General Cleaning
Regularly skim the surface for leaves and debris. Use a pool vacuum (not included) to clean the pool floor as needed. The pool's drain plug allows for easy draining with a garden hose when necessary.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Intex pool or filter pump, refer to the following common solutions:
- Pump not running: Ensure the pump is securely plugged into a working GFCI outlet. Check if the GFCI has tripped and reset it if necessary. Inspect the power cord for damage.
- Poor water circulation/filtration: Check if the filter cartridge is clogged and clean or replace it. Ensure all hoses are properly connected and free of kinks. Verify that the water level in the pool is adequate.
- Water leaks: Inspect all hose connections for tightness. Check the pool liner for any visible punctures or tears. Small punctures can often be repaired with a vinyl repair kit (not included).
- Cloudy water: This often indicates poor filtration or imbalanced water chemistry. Clean or replace the filter cartridge, test water chemistry, and adjust chemicals as needed. Ensure the pump is running for sufficient periods.
