4. Setup

4.1 Subwoofer Placement

For optimal performance and bass response, it is recommended to place your Klipsch Sub-120 subwoofer in a corner of the room. Corner placement utilizes the room's acoustics to enhance bass output and provide a more immersive audio experience.

4.2 Connections

The Klipsch Sub-120 offers flexible connection options to integrate with almost any AV receiver or stereo system.

  • LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) Input: For receivers with a dedicated subwoofer output (LFE or SUB OUT), connect a single RCA cable from the receiver's subwoofer output to the LFE input on the subwoofer. This is the recommended connection for home theater systems.
  • Line In (Stereo RCA Inputs): If your receiver does not have an LFE output, connect stereo RCA cables from your receiver's pre-out (left and right) to the corresponding Line In (L/R) inputs on the subwoofer.

5. Operating the Subwoofer

The Klipsch Sub-120 features several controls on its rear panel to fine-tune its performance to your listening environment and preferences.

5.1 Controls Overview

  • GAIN (Volume) Control: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with your main speakers.
  • LOW-PASS (Crossover) Control: This knob sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. Frequencies above this setting will not be reproduced by the subwoofer. Adjust this to match the low-frequency capabilities of your main speakers. A common starting point is 80Hz, but it can be adjusted between 40Hz and 120Hz.
  • PHASE Switch (0°/180°): This switch adjusts the phase of the subwoofer's output relative to your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that provides the most impactful and coherent bass response in your listening position.
  • ON/AUTO/OFF Switch:
    • ON: The subwoofer remains continuously powered on.
    • AUTO: The subwoofer automatically turns on when an audio signal is detected and enters standby mode after a period of inactivity.
    • OFF: The subwoofer is powered off.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Klipsch Sub-120 subwoofer, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe down the cabinet. Avoid using harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the finish.
  • Grille Care: The subwoofer features a removable grille. If cleaning is necessary, gently remove the grille and use a soft brush or vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment to remove dust.
  • Ventilation: Periodically check that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the subwoofer for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original packaging.
