1. Introduction
The ABUS PRO Shield Plus 5950 is a robust frame lock designed to provide quick and effective security for bicycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters. It mounts directly onto the bicycle frame, immobilizing the rear wheel to prevent unauthorized movement. This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your ABUS frame lock.
The lock features an ABUS security level of 9, offering good protection against medium theft risk. Its Plus cylinder provides high resistance against manipulation techniques such as picking. The design also allows for the integration of additional accessories, such as a lock chain, to enhance security.

3. Setup and Installation
The ABUS PRO Shield Plus 5950 frame lock is designed for direct mounting onto the bicycle frame. Ensure your bicycle frame has the appropriate mounting points before proceeding.
- Positioning: Align the frame lock with the designated mounting holes on your bicycle's rear frame. The lock should be positioned so that the shackle can effectively block the rear wheel's movement when engaged.
- Securing: Use the provided mounting screws to firmly attach the frame lock to the bicycle frame. Ensure all screws are tightened securely to prevent any movement or rattling during use.
- Testing: After installation, test the lock mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Insert the key, turn it to engage the shackle, and then disengage it. Verify that the shackle moves freely and locks securely.

4. Operation
The ABUS PRO Shield Plus 5950 offers straightforward operation for securing your bicycle.
4.1 Engaging the Lock
- Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
- Turn the key to engage the shackle. The shackle will move through the spokes of the rear wheel, preventing it from turning.
- Remove the key.
4.2 Disengaging the Lock
- Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
- Turn the key to retract the shackle.
- Depending on the version (NR or R), the key can either be removed or remains in the cylinder.
4.3 Key Variants (NR vs. R)
- NR Version: The key can be removed from the lock cylinder at any time, even when the lock is open. This allows you to carry your key separately.
- R Version: The key cannot be removed from the cylinder when the lock is open. This ensures you always have the key with the lock, preventing it from being misplaced while the bike is unlocked.
4.4 Using with a Lock Chain (Optional)
For enhanced security, the PRO Shield Plus 5950 is compatible with ABUS lock chains (e.g., 6KS/85 or 6KS/100) or connection cables (e.g., ACL 12/100). These accessories can be inserted into the additional lock housing to secure your bicycle to a fixed object.
- Wrap the lock chain around a fixed object and your bicycle frame.
- Insert the end of the chain into the designated slot on the frame lock.
- Engage the frame lock as described in section 4.1. The chain will be secured simultaneously.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and smooth operation of your ABUS frame lock.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a few drops of a suitable lubricant (e.g., 3-in-1 oil or a specialized lock lubricant) to the keyhole and moving parts of the shackle mechanism. This helps maintain smooth locking and unlocking action.
- Cleaning: Keep the lock free from dirt, dust, and debris. Use a soft cloth to wipe down the exterior. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the finish or internal components.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the lock for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Ensure the mounting screws remain tight.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your ABUS PRO Shield Plus 5950, consider the following:
- Key difficult to insert or turn:
- Check for debris in the keyhole.
- Apply lubricant to the keyhole and try again.
- Ensure you are using the correct key.
- Shackle not engaging/disengaging smoothly:
- Apply lubricant to the shackle mechanism.
- Check for any obstructions around the shackle's path.
- Ensure the lock is properly aligned on the bicycle frame.
- Lost Key: Use the provided Code Card Plus to order a replacement key from an authorized ABUS dealer. Without the Code Card, obtaining a replacement key may be difficult or impossible.
