Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your sand filter. Please follow these guidelines carefully.

Safety Precautions:
Installation Steps:
  1. Positioning: Place the filter tank on its designated level surface.
  2. Filling with Sand:
    • Remove the multi-port valve and internal components if pre-assembled.
    • Place a standpipe protector (e.g., a plastic cup or funnel) over the standpipe to prevent sand from entering it.
    • Carefully pour the recommended grade and amount of filter sand into the tank. Refer to the specifications for sand requirements.
    • Remove the standpipe protector.
  3. Multi-Port Valve Installation:
    • Ensure the O-ring is properly seated on the multi-port valve flange.
    • Carefully lower the multi-port valve onto the tank, aligning the standpipe with the valve's opening.
    • Secure the valve to the tank using the provided clamp or bolts. Do not overtighten.
  4. Plumbing Connections:
    • Connect the pump discharge pipe to the "PUMP" port on the multi-port valve.
    • Connect the return to pool pipe to the "RETURN" port.
    • Connect the waste/drain pipe to the "WASTE" port.
    • Ensure all connections are watertight using appropriate sealants and fittings.
  5. Initial Start-up:
    • Before starting the pump, ensure the multi-port valve is set to the "BACKWASH" position.
    • Open all necessary valves in the plumbing system to allow water flow.
    • Start the pump and allow it to run for 2-3 minutes or until the water from the waste line runs clear.
    • Turn off the pump.
    • Set the multi-port valve to the "RINSE" position and run the pump for 30-60 seconds.
    • Turn off the pump.
    • Set the multi-port valve to the "FILTER" position. The filter is now ready for normal operation.

Operating Instructions

The multi-port valve allows for various operational modes. Always turn off the pump before changing the valve position to prevent damage.

Multi-Port Valve Positions:
Normal Operation:

Set the multi-port valve to "FILTER". Turn on the pump. Monitor the pressure gauge. The initial pressure reading after a backwash is your clean filter pressure. When the pressure rises 8-10 PSI (0.55-0.69 BAR) above this clean pressure, it indicates the filter needs backwashing.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures efficient operation and extends the life of your filter.

Backwashing:
  1. Turn off the pump.
  2. Set the multi-port valve to "BACKWASH".
  3. Turn on the pump and backwash until the water in the sight glass (if present) runs clear (typically 2-3 minutes).
  4. Turn off the pump.
  5. Set the multi-port valve to "RINSE".
  6. Turn on the pump and rinse for 30-60 seconds.
  7. Turn off the pump.
  8. Set the multi-port valve to "FILTER" for normal operation.
Sand Replacement:

Filter sand typically needs replacement every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality. Consult a pool professional for assistance with sand replacement.

Winterization (for colder climates):
