  1. Identify Components: Unpack all components and identify the steel lid, galvanized feeder funnel, barrel band leg mounting kit, and hardware. Refer to Figure 2.
  2. Attach Feeder Funnel: Secure the galvanized feeder funnel to the bottom opening of your 55-gallon barrel using the provided hardware. Ensure it is centered and tightly fastened to prevent feed leakage.
  3. Install Barrel Band Leg Mounting Kit: Position the barrel band leg mounting kit around the lower section of the 55-gallon barrel. The long bolts are adjustable to fit various barrel sizes. Tighten the bolts securely to ensure a snug fit around the barrel.
  4. Attach Pipe Legs (Not Included): Insert your chosen pipe legs (recommended 1 1/4" ID or larger) into the designated mounts on the barrel band. Secure them firmly according to the leg manufacturer's instructions.
  5. Place Lid: Once the barrel is upright and stable on its legs, place the steel lid securely on top of the barrel.
  6. Final Check: Verify that all connections are tight and the feeder is stable before filling with feed.

Operating Your Feeder

Once assembled, your Highwild Deer Feeder is ready for use.

  • Filling: Remove the steel lid and fill the 55-gallon barrel with your desired deer feed. Ensure the feed is suitable for the feeder's funnel spout diameter (2.2").
  • Placement: Position the feeder in an appropriate location for deer, ensuring it is stable and accessible for refilling.
  • Monitoring: Regularly check the feed level and refill as needed.

Care and Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life of your Highwild Deer Feeder Kit.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the feeder funnel and barrel interior to prevent mold or feed buildup. Use mild soap and water, then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before refilling.
  • Durability: The all-metal structure is designed for durability. Inspect components regularly for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Storage: For long-term storage, the kit components can be disassembled for compact storage and easy transportation. Store in a dry place to prevent rust.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your feeder kit, consider the following:

  • Feed Flow Issues: Ensure the feeder funnel is clear of obstructions. Check that the feed type is not too large or clumpy for the funnel spout.
  • Instability: Verify that the barrel band is securely tightened around the barrel and that the pipe legs are properly installed and stable on the ground.
  • Lid Fit: Ensure the lid is properly seated on the barrel to protect feed from elements and pests.
