5. Setup

Before using the tool, ensure all components are present and in good condition.

5.1. Inserting a Bit into the Ratchet Handle

  1. Select the appropriate bit for your task from the set.
  2. Insert the 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) hex end of the bit into the drive opening of the ratchet handle.
  3. Push the bit firmly until it clicks into place, ensuring it is securely seated and does not wobble.

5.2. Attaching the Extension Bar

The extension bar can be used to increase the reach of the ratchet handle or to create a T-handle configuration.

  1. To extend the reach, insert the 1/4 inch hex end of the extension bar into the ratchet handle's drive opening, similar to inserting a bit.
  2. Then, insert the desired bit into the other end of the extension bar.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Using the Ratchet Handle

  1. With a bit securely inserted, place the bit onto the fastener head.
  2. Adjust the direction of the ratchet mechanism using the small lever on the ratchet head for tightening or loosening.
  3. Apply steady pressure and rotate the handle to turn the fastener. The ratchet mechanism allows for continuous turning without repositioning the handle.
  4. The ratchet head features a push-button oscillation. Press this button to adjust the angle of the ratchet head for improved access in confined spaces.

6.2. T-Handle Configuration

For increased leverage and control, the ratchet handle can be converted into a T-handle:

  1. Locate the matching marks on the dedicated extension bar and the ratchet handle.
  2. Align these marks and insert the extension bar through the designated opening in the ratchet handle.
  3. Push the extension bar through until it is centered, forming a T-shape.
  4. Insert the desired bit into the end of the extension bar. This configuration provides a comfortable grip and enhanced torque for stubborn fasteners.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your tool set.

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the ratchet handle, extension bar, and bits with a clean, dry cloth to remove dirt, grease, and debris. For stubborn grime, a mild solvent or degreaser can be used, followed by thorough drying.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the moving parts of the ratchet mechanism to ensure smooth operation. Avoid over-lubricating.
  • Storage: Always store the components back in their designated slots within the metal case. This protects the tools from damage, corrosion, and loss. Store the case in a dry environment.
  • Inspection: Regularly inspect bits for wear, rounding, or damage. Replace worn bits to prevent damage to fasteners. Check the ratchet handle for any signs of damage or loose components.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your TONE BRFS27 Bit Ratchet Set, consider the following:

  • Bit slipping from fastener: Ensure the correct bit size and type are used for the fastener. Verify the bit is fully seated in the ratchet or extension. Replace worn bits.
  • Ratchet mechanism not engaging: Check the direction lever on the ratchet head. Ensure it is fully engaged in either the tightening or loosening position. Clean the ratchet mechanism if debris is present.
  • Difficulty inserting/removing bits: Ensure the bit is clean and free of debris. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the bit's hex shank if necessary.
  • T-handle not forming correctly: Ensure the extension bar is aligned with the matching marks on the ratchet handle and pushed through completely.
