KORG i3 Arranger Keyboard (Model i3MS) Instruction Manual

1.1 Unpacking and Contents

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure the following items are present:

• KORG i3 Arranger Keyboard
• Music Stand
• Power Supply

Retain the original packaging for future transport or storage.

1.2 Connecting Power

The i3 can be powered using the included AC adapter or 6 x AA batteries (not included).

AC Adapter Connection:

1. Connect the DC plug of the included power supply to the DC 9V jack on the rear panel of the i3.
2. Plug the AC adapter into a standard wall outlet.

Battery Installation:

1. Ensure the unit is powered off and disconnected from the AC adapter.
2. Open the battery compartment cover on the underside of the keyboard.
3. Insert 6 x AA batteries, observing correct polarity (+/-).
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

Note: When using batteries, the keyboard will automatically switch to battery power if the AC adapter is disconnected. Remove batteries if the unit will not be used for an extended period.

1.3 Attaching the Music Stand

Insert the music stand into the designated slots on the top panel of the i3 Arranger Keyboard.

1.4 Audio and Data Connections

The i3 offers various audio output and data connection options:

• Headphones: Connect standard 3.5mm stereo headphones to the HEADPHONES jack for private listening.
• LINE OUT L/MONO, R: Use these 1/4-inch jacks to connect to an external amplifier, mixer, or audio interface. Use both for stereo output, or the L/MONO jack for mono output.
• AUDIO IN: Connect an external audio player (e.g., smartphone, MP3 player) to the 3.5mm AUDIO IN jack to play along with your favorite tracks.
• USB-to-Host: Connect the i3 to a computer using a USB cable for MIDI data transfer. This allows the i3 to function as a MIDI controller or to receive MIDI data from software.
• USB-to-Device: Connect a USB flash drive to this port for saving and loading user data, MIDI data files, or audio WAV files.
• MIDI OUT: Use a standard 5-pin MIDI cable to connect the i3 to other MIDI-compatible instruments or devices.
• FOOT CONTROLLER: Connect an optional foot switch or expression pedal for hands-free control over various functions.

2.1 Powering On/Off

Press the POWER button located on the top panel to turn the unit on or off. A brief startup sequence will occur.

2.2 Navigating the Display and Controls

The i3 features a clear central display and illuminated buttons for easy navigation and function selection.

• The display shows currently selected sounds, styles, and other parameters.
• Use the CATEGORY buttons and ENTER button to browse and select options.
• Illuminated buttons indicate active functions or settings.
• The joystick allows for real-time pitch bend and modulation control.

2.3 Sound Selection

The i3 includes over 800 sounds and 59 custom Drum Kits. Sounds are organized into categories for quick access.

1. Press the SOUND SET button to enter sound selection mode.
2. Use the CATEGORY buttons or data entry knob to scroll through available sound categories.
3. Select a desired sound using the corresponding buttons or by pressing ENTER.
4. Utilize the UPPER/SPLIT and LOWER buttons to layer sounds or split the keyboard for different sounds on each hand.

2.4 Style Performance

The i3 features various accompaniment styles to enhance your performance.

1. Press the STYLE PERFORMANCE button to activate style mode.
2. Select a style using the CATEGORY buttons or data entry knob.
3. Press START/STOP to begin or end the accompaniment.
4. Use the PART MUTE buttons to individually control accompaniment parts (e.g., drums, bass, chords).
5. Adjust the tempo using the dedicated TEMPO buttons or the TAP TEMPO function.
6. The VARIATION buttons allow for changes in the style's arrangement.

2.5 Performance Recording

The i3 allows you to record your performances as MIDI data files or audio WAV files.

1. Connect a USB flash drive to the USB-to-Device port.
2. Press the PERFORMANCE REC button to enter recording mode.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to select recording type (MIDI or Audio) and start recording.
4. Press STOP to end the recording.
5. Your recorded file will be saved to the connected USB flash drive.

3.1 Cleaning

• Wipe the exterior of the keyboard with a soft, dry cloth.
• For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner, then wipe dry immediately.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or alcohol, as these can damage the finish.
• Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the keyboard.

3.2 Storage

• Store the i3 in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
• If storing for an extended period, remove batteries to prevent leakage.
• Cover the keyboard with a dust cover to protect it from dust and debris.
