Setup
1. Physical Placement and Rack Mounting
Place the amplifier in a location with adequate ventilation. If rack mounting, use the included hardware to secure the amplifier in a standard 19-inch audio rack. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for airflow to prevent overheating.
2. Speaker Connections
The MX880 GEN2 features phoenix connectors for speaker outputs. Each zone has dedicated left and right speaker terminals. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and – to –) when connecting speakers. The amplifier supports both 4-ohm and 8-ohm speakers.

Figure 3: Detailed view of the Bus inputs and Zone 4 connections on the rear panel, illustrating the flexibility for system integration.
3. Audio Input Connections
Connect your audio sources (e.g., pre-amplifier, media player) to the amplifier's inputs. The MX880 GEN2 offers multiple input options:
- Line In (RCA): Each zone has a dedicated stereo RCA input.
- Bus In (RCA): Two global stereo RCA bus inputs (Bus In 1, Bus In 2) allow a single source to be distributed to multiple zones.
- Input Selection Switch: Each zone has a switch to select between its dedicated Line In, Bus In 1, or Bus In 2.
4. Trigger Connections (Optional)
The amplifier includes 12V trigger inputs and outputs for integration with other audio components. Connect a 12V trigger source to the 'Trigger In' to automatically power on/off the amplifier. Use 'Trigger Out' to control other devices.
5. Power Connection
Once all audio and speaker connections are made, connect the supplied power cord to the amplifier's AC inlet and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the voltage selector switch (if present) is set correctly for your region (AC 115V or AC 230V).
Operating Instructions
1. Powering On/Off
Press the main power button on the front panel to turn the amplifier on or off. The power indicator LED will illuminate when the unit is powered on.
2. Zone Control
Each of the four zones has a dedicated On/Off button on the front panel. Press the corresponding button to activate or deactivate a zone. The zone indicator LED will light up when the zone is active.
3. Volume Adjustment
Each zone has individual volume adjustment controls located on the rear panel. Use a small screwdriver to adjust the 'Vol.Right' and 'Vol.Left' potentiometers for each zone to set the desired maximum volume level. Fine-tune volume from your audio source.
4. Input Source Selection
On the rear panel, next to the RCA inputs for each zone, there is a slide switch to select the audio input source for that specific zone: 'Line In', 'Bus In 1', or 'Bus In 2'.
5. Stereo/Bridge Mode
Each zone can operate in stereo or bridged mono mode. The 'Stereo/Bridge' switch on the rear panel allows you to select the mode. In bridged mode, the two channels of a zone combine to provide higher power output to a single speaker (typically 8-ohm). Ensure correct speaker wiring when using bridged mode.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol sprays.
- Ventilation: Regularly check that the ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating.
- Power Cord: Inspect the power cord periodically for any damage. If damaged, replace it with an appropriate cord.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No power | Power cord disconnected; Power outlet faulty; Amplifier protection mode activated. | Check power cord connection; Test power outlet; Disconnect power for 5 minutes and reconnect. |
| No sound from a zone | Zone not activated; Incorrect input selected; Speaker wires disconnected/faulty; Source device not playing. | Press zone On/Off button; Verify input selection switch; Check speaker connections; Ensure audio source is active. |
| Distorted sound | Volume too high (source or amplifier); Incorrect speaker impedance; Faulty cables. | Reduce volume levels; Ensure speakers match amplifier impedance (4 or 8 ohms); Check and replace cables if necessary. |
| Humming or buzzing noise | Ground loop; Loose connections; Interference from other electronics. | Ensure all components are on the same electrical circuit; Check all audio cable connections; Move amplifier away from other electronic devices. |
| Amplifier overheats and shuts down | Insufficient ventilation; Overloaded speakers (too low impedance); Short circuit in speaker wiring. | Ensure clear ventilation; Check speaker impedance; Inspect speaker wiring for shorts. Allow unit to cool before restarting. |
