Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use and care of your SEIKO Prospex Automatic Green Dial Men's Watch, model SPB121J1. This timepiece features an automatic movement, a distinctive green dial, and a robust construction suitable for various activities, including water sports.
Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your watch.
Setup
1. Initial Winding
Your SEIKO Prospex watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement (Caliber 6R35) and does not require a battery. It is wound by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or its power reserve is low, manually wind it before wearing.
- Unscrew the crown (located at the 3 o'clock position) by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to position 0.
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide sufficient power to start the watch.
- The watch will continue to wind automatically as you wear it. The Caliber 6R35 offers a 70-hour power reserve when fully wound.
2. Setting the Time and Date
- Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to position 1. Turn the crown clockwise to set the date. Avoid setting the date between 9:00 PM and 3:00 AM, as this can interfere with the automatic date change mechanism.
- Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to position 2. The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time setting, synchronize with a reliable time source.
- Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 0 and screw it in clockwise until it is securely tightened. This ensures the watch's water resistance.

Operating the Watch
Timekeeping
The watch operates continuously once wound and worn regularly. The automatic movement harnesses the kinetic energy from your arm's motion to power the watch. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it may stop and require manual winding and time setting.
Compass Functionality
The SPB121J1 features a rotating inner compass ring, which can be used for basic directional orientation. To use the compass:
- In the Northern Hemisphere, point the hour hand towards the sun.
- Rotate the inner compass bezel so that the "S" (South) mark is halfway between the hour hand and the 12 o'clock mark on the dial.
- The "N" (North) mark on the bezel will then indicate North.
- In the Southern Hemisphere, point the 12 o'clock mark towards the sun. Rotate the inner compass bezel so that the "N" (North) mark is halfway between the 12 o'clock mark and the hour hand. The "S" (South) mark will then indicate South.
Note: This compass function is for basic orientation and should not replace professional navigation equipment. Accuracy depends on the sun's position and local time.

Maintenance
General Care
- Cleaning: Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and smudges. For stainless steel parts, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry one.
- Leather Band Care: Avoid prolonged exposure of the leather band to water, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures to prevent damage and discoloration. Clean with a specialized leather cleaner if necessary.
- Temperature Extremes: Do not expose the watch to extreme temperatures (above 60°C / 140°F or below 0°C / 32°F) or sudden temperature changes.
- Chemicals: Avoid contact with solvents, detergents, perfumes, and cosmetics, as they can damage the case, band, or gaskets.
- Magnetic Fields: Keep the watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, mobile phones, magnetic necklaces) to prevent affecting the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
Water Resistance
This watch has a water resistance rating of 200 meters (20 BAR), making it suitable for water sports and swimming. However, it is crucial to ensure the crown is always screwed down tightly before any contact with water.
- Do not operate the crown or pushers when the watch is wet or submerged in water.
- After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch with fresh water and wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
- Regular checks of the water resistance by an authorized SEIKO service center are recommended, especially if the watch has been subjected to impacts or extreme conditions.

Troubleshooting
- Watch has stopped: If the watch has stopped, it likely needs to be wound. Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 20-30 times while it is in position 0 (unscrewed). Ensure you wear the watch regularly to maintain its power reserve.
- Time is inaccurate: Mechanical watches can experience slight variations in accuracy. If the time is significantly off, ensure the watch is fully wound. Avoid exposing the watch to strong magnetic fields. If inaccuracy persists, professional inspection may be required.
- Date does not change: Check if the date was set during the prohibited period (9:00 PM - 3:00 AM). If so, manually advance the time past 3:00 AM, then set the date. Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down after setting.
- Condensation inside the crystal: This indicates a potential breach in water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center for inspection and repair to prevent further damage to the movement.
