6.1 Preparing for Planting

  1. Positioning: Choose a location that provides adequate sunlight for your chosen plants. Utilize the wheels to easily move the planter throughout the day or season to optimize light exposure. Lock the wheels once positioned.
  2. Soil: Fill the planter box with high-quality potting soil suitable for your plants. Ensure the soil level is a few inches below the rim to prevent overflow when watering.
  3. Grow Grid: If using the grow grid, place it into the planter box before adding soil to define your planting areas.

6.2 Planting

  • Plant seeds or seedlings according to their specific requirements for spacing and depth.
  • Water thoroughly after planting.

6.3 Watering

  • Water plants regularly, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. The integrated drainage system will help prevent excessive moisture buildup.
  • Monitor soil moisture daily, especially during hot or dry periods.

7. Maintenance

  • Wood Care: The wooden frame is designed for outdoor use. To prolong its lifespan, consider applying a wood sealant annually, especially if exposed to harsh weather conditions.
  • Liner Maintenance: The inner liner helps protect the wood. Inspect it periodically for tears or damage. Replace if necessary to maintain its protective function.
  • Drainage Holes: Ensure the drainage holes at the bottom of the planter remain clear of debris to allow proper water flow.
  • Wheels: Periodically check the wheels for smooth operation and ensure the locking mechanisms are functional. Clean any dirt or debris from the wheels.
  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the planter with a damp cloth as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals that may damage the wood finish.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Waterlogging: If plants appear waterlogged, check that the drainage holes are not blocked. Ensure the soil type allows for good drainage.
  • Instability: If the planter feels wobbly after assembly, re-check all screw connections and tighten them securely. Ensure the planter is on a level surface and the wheels are locked.
  • Pest Infestation: While the elevated design helps deter some pests, regular inspection of plants is recommended. Use appropriate organic pest control methods if needed.
  • Wood Splitting: Minor wood splitting can occur during assembly if screws are overtightened or if the wood is dry. Use a rubber mallet for gentle tapping during assembly and pre-drill pilot holes if needed for additional screws.
