Setup
- Surface Preparation: Ensure all surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, dust, and other contaminants. For optimal adhesion, lightly abrade smooth surfaces with sandpaper (e.g., 120-grit) and then wipe clean.
- Temperature: For best results, apply the adhesive at room temperature (20-25°C / 68-77°F). Performance may be affected by extreme temperatures.
- Gather Tools: Prepare a clean, disposable mixing surface (e.g., cardboard, plastic sheet) and a stir stick or spatula for mixing.
Operating Instructions
- Dispense: Squeeze out equal volumes of Part A (Resin) and Part B (Hardener) onto the clean mixing surface. It is crucial to maintain a 1:1 ratio by volume for proper curing.
- Mix: Thoroughly mix the two components with the stir stick for at least 2 minutes, or until a uniform color and consistency are achieved. Scrape the sides and bottom of the mixing surface to ensure all material is incorporated.
- Apply: Immediately after mixing, apply a thin, even layer of the mixed adhesive to one of the prepared surfaces. Work quickly, as the adhesive has a 50-minute worklife.
- Assemble: Bring the parts together and hold them firmly in place. If necessary, use clamps, tape, or weights to maintain contact during the initial curing phase.
- Cure: Allow the adhesive to cure undisturbed. Initial handling strength is typically achieved within a few hours, but full cure and maximum bond strength may take 24 hours or longer, depending on temperature and humidity.
Maintenance
- Cleaning Tools: Clean mixing tools and any spills immediately with appropriate solvents (e.g., acetone or isopropyl alcohol) before the adhesive cures. Once cured, the adhesive is very difficult to remove.
- Storage: Store the unused adhesive tubes in their original packaging in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Ensure caps are tightly sealed to prevent air exposure.
Troubleshooting
- Adhesive Not Curing:
- Issue: Adhesive remains tacky or soft after the recommended cure time.
- Solution: This is most commonly due to an incorrect mix ratio of Part A and Part B, or insufficient mixing. Ensure equal volumes are dispensed and mixed thoroughly for at least 2 minutes. Low temperatures can also slow curing; ensure application is at room temperature.
- Weak Bond:
- Issue: Bond fails or is easily broken.
- Solution: Improper surface preparation (e.g., dirty, oily, or overly smooth surfaces) is a common cause. Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and properly abraded if necessary. Applying too thin or too thick a layer can also affect bond strength.
