This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the VTech DS6251-3 DECT 6.0 2-line Cordless Digital Answering System. It covers setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and user experience. The system features DECT 6.0 technology for clear communication, a 2-line operation, a digital answering system, and Smart Call Blocker functionality.

Setup
1. Battery Installation
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of each cordless handset.
- Connect the battery pack connector securely into the jack inside the compartment.
- Place the battery pack with the label THIS SIDE UP facing up.
- Replace the battery compartment cover.
- Place the handset in the base unit or charger to charge. Allow at least 10 hours for a full charge before first use.

2. Base Unit and Charger Connection
- Plug the large end of the base unit power adapter into an electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch.
- Plug the small end of the base unit power adapter into the power jack on the back of the base unit.
- For each accessory charger, plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet and the other end into the power jack on the back of the charger.
- Connect the telephone line cord to the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base unit.
- Connect the other end of the telephone line cord to a telephone wall jack. If you have two lines, connect the second line cord to the LINE 2 jack.

3. Initial Setup
After the handsets are charged, you will be prompted to set the date and time, and select the display language.
- Follow the on-screen prompts on the handset display to configure these settings.
- The system supports Trilingual Prompts: English, Spanish, and French.
Operating the System
Making and Receiving Calls
- To make a call: Press TALK/FLASH or SPEAKER, then dial the number.
- To answer a call: Press any key (Any Key Answer) or TALK/FLASH or SPEAKER.
- To end a call: Press OFF or place the handset in the charger.
- Volume Adjustment: During a call, press VOLUME up or down on the handset.
- Mute: Press MUTE during a call to temporarily disable your microphone. Press again to unmute.
- Redial: Press REDIAL to view the last 20 numbers dialed. Select a number and press TALK/FLASH to call.
Caller ID and Call Waiting
The system displays the caller's name and number if you subscribe to Caller ID service. If you subscribe to Call Waiting, you will hear a tone when another call comes in while you are on the phone. Press FLASH to switch between calls.
Phonebook Directory
Store up to 50 names and numbers in the phonebook for quick dialing.
- To add an entry: Navigate to the Phonebook menu, select "Add New Entry," and follow the prompts to enter the name and number.
- To dial from phonebook: Press DIR, scroll to the desired entry, and press TALK/FLASH.
Digital Answering System
The integrated digital answering system records up to 22 minutes of messages, announcements, and memos. Each line has a dedicated mailbox.
- Playing Messages: Press PLAY/STOP on the base unit or access the Answering System menu on a handset.
- Remote Access: You can retrieve messages from an outside line by calling your phone number and entering your remote access code.
- Call Screening: Listen to incoming messages as they are being recorded.
- Call Intercept: Pick up a call while the answering system is recording a message.
Smart Call Blocker
The Smart Call Blocker feature helps to filter out unwanted robocalls and telemarketers. Calls from numbers on your block list will not ring through. You can also set it to screen unknown callers.

Intercom and Conference Calls
- Intercom: Initiate an intercom call between two handsets or between a handset and the base unit.
- Conference Call: Conduct a 3-way conference call between an outside line and up to two cordless handsets. You can also conference an outside call between two lines.
Expandability
The VTech DS6251 system is expandable up to 12 handsets (DS6250 accessory handsets sold separately).
- To register a new handset, place it in the base unit's charger and follow the on-screen instructions.
Maintenance
Battery Care
- Use only the supplied battery pack or an authorized replacement.
- Do not dispose of batteries in a fire. Check local codes for special disposal instructions.
- Do not open or mutilate the battery. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause burns or injury to the eyes or skin.
Cleaning
- Clean the product with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or abrasive powders.
- Avoid exposing the product to direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.

No Dial Tone
- Ensure the telephone line cord is securely plugged into the base unit and the wall jack.
- Check if the power adapter is properly connected to the base unit and a working electrical outlet.
- Try connecting a different phone to the wall jack to verify the line is active.
Handset Not Charging
- Make sure the handset is correctly seated in the base unit or charger.
- Verify that the power adapter for the base unit/charger is plugged into a working electrical outlet.
- Clean the charging contacts on the handset and charger with a dry cloth.
Poor Sound Quality
- Move the handset closer to the base unit.
- Avoid placing the base unit near other electronic devices (e.g., microwaves, computers) that may cause interference.
- Check for any physical obstructions between the handset and base unit.
Answering System Not Recording
- Ensure the answering system is turned ON.
- Check if the memory is full. Delete old messages to free up space.
- Verify that the date and time are set correctly.
