1. Introduction

The METRAVI 908 Vibration Meter is a precision instrument designed for measuring vibration velocity, acceleration, and displacement. It also includes a temperature measurement function. 2. Safety Information

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the meter.
  2. Insert the included 9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2 Probe Attachment

The METRAVI 908 comes with a detachable probe and various tips to suit different measurement requirements.

  1. Connect the probe cable to the designated port on the top of the main meter unit.
  2. Select the appropriate probe tip (short, long, or magnetic base) for your measurement task.
  3. Screw the chosen probe tip onto the end of the vibration probe until it is firmly attached.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

Press the ON/MEAS button to power on the meter. The LCD will illuminate and display the current readings. To power off, press and hold the ON/MEAS button for a few seconds until the display turns off. The meter also features an auto-power-off function after a period of inactivity.

6.2 Measurement Modes (A/V/D)

The METRAVI 908 can measure Acceleration (A), Velocity (V), and Displacement (D).

  • Press the A/V/D button to cycle through the measurement modes.
  • The selected mode will be indicated on the LCD display (e.g., m/s² for acceleration, mm/s for velocity, mm for displacement).

6.3 Temperature Unit Selection (°C/°F)

Press the °C/°F button to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit for temperature readings.

6.4 High/Low Frequency Selection (HI/LO)

Press the HI/LO button to select the desired frequency range for vibration measurement. This allows for selective vibration characteristic analysis.

6.5 Maximum Value Hold (MAX HOLD)

Press the MAX HOLD button to capture and display the maximum measurement value recorded during a session. Press it again to exit this mode.

6.6 Taking Measurements

  1. Ensure the meter is powered on and the desired measurement mode (A, V, or D) is selected.
  2. Carefully place the probe tip firmly against the surface of the object you wish to measure. For stable readings, use the magnetic base if applicable.
  3. Observe the readings on the LCD display. The meter will continuously update the vibration and temperature values.
  4. For optimal accuracy, ensure good contact between the probe and the measurement surface.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the meter's casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the probe tip is clean and free of debris for accurate readings.

7.2 Storage

When not in use, store the METRAVI 908 Vibration Meter in its hard carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if storing for an extended period to prevent battery leakage.

7.3 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the 9V battery as described in the 'Battery Installation' section (5.1).

8. Troubleshooting

  • Meter does not power on:
    Check if the battery is installed correctly and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if necessary.
  • Inaccurate readings:
    Ensure the probe tip is clean and making firm, stable contact with the measurement surface. Verify that the correct measurement mode (A/V/D) and frequency range (HI/LO) are selected for your application. Avoid strong electromagnetic interference.
  • Display is blank or flickering:
    This may indicate a low battery. Replace the 9V battery. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
  • Probe not detecting vibration:
    Check the connection between the probe and the main unit. Ensure the probe tip is securely attached.
