8. Troubleshooting

8.1 Display Not Showing or Incorrect Resolution on Raspberry Pi

If the display is not showing correctly or the resolution is off when connected to a Raspberry Pi, you may need to modify the /boot/config.txt file. This is a common step for non-standard resolutions.

  1. Access the config.txt file on your Raspberry Pi's SD card.
  2. Add the following lines to the end of the file. These settings are for a 1024x576 resolution, which often works well without disabling 3D acceleration:
# 5-inch Elecrow 800x480 option
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_drive=2
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=87
display_rotate=0
dtparam=audio=on
hdmi_cvt=800 480 60 6 0 0 0

For touch functionality, ensure the following line is also present or added:

dtoverlay=ads7846,cs=1,penirq=25,penirq_pull=2,speed=50000,keep_vref_on=0,swapxy=0,pmax=255,xohms=150,xmin=200,xmax=3900,ymin=200,ymax=3900

After modifying, save the file and reboot your Raspberry Pi.

8.2 No Sound or Audio Issues

If you experience audio issues, particularly on Raspberry Pi, it might be related to PulseAudio. Consider purging PulseAudio if it's installed and causing conflicts:

sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio

Ensure dtparam=audio=on is set in your config.txt file.

8.3 Touch Screen Not Responding

Ensure the USB cable for touch functionality is securely connected to both the monitor and your device. For Raspberry Pi, verify the dtoverlay line for the touchscreen driver is correctly added to config.txt. For Windows, ensure the display is recognized as a touch panel in your system settings.

8.4 Screen Appears Washed Out or Poor Quality

While the monitor offers good performance for its class, some users might find the display quality to be basic compared to higher-end screens. Adjusting the backlight and contrast settings (if available) can help. Ensure your device's display output settings match the monitor's native 800x480 resolution for the clearest image.

9. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the screen. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a screen-safe cleaning solution. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the monitor in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Avoid applying excessive pressure to the screen or dropping the device.
