2. Safety Information

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The AN101 multimeter requires two 3V CR2032 batteries (not included) for operation.

  1. Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit (refer to Figure 3.4).
  3. Using a small screwdriver, carefully remove the screw securing the battery cover.
  4. Remove the battery cover.
  5. Insert two CR2032 batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  6. Replace the battery cover and secure it with the screw.

4.2 Test Lead Connection

Connect the test leads to the appropriate input jacks:

  • Insert the black test lead into the COM (common) jack.
  • Insert the red test lead into the VΩmA jack for voltage, resistance, diode, continuity, and current measurements up to 200mA.

5. Operating Instructions

The AN101 features automatic ranging for most measurements, simplifying operation. Always ensure the test leads are correctly connected and the function dial is set to the desired measurement type.

5.1 General Operation

  1. Turn the rotary switch to the desired function.
  2. Connect the test leads to the circuit or component under test.
  3. Read the measurement value on the LCD display.
  4. Use the SELECT button to toggle between AC/DC modes where applicable (e.g., Voltage, Current).
  5. Use the RANGE button to switch between auto-ranging and manual ranging.
  6. Use the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.

5.2 Measuring DC Voltage (V–)

  1. Set the rotary switch to V–.
  2. Connect the red test lead to the positive (+) side of the DC voltage source and the black test lead to the negative (-) side.
  3. Read the voltage value on the display. The meter will automatically select the appropriate range.

5.3 Measuring AC Voltage (V∼)

  1. Set the rotary switch to V∼.
  2. Connect the test leads across the AC voltage source.
  3. Read the voltage value on the display. The meter will automatically select the appropriate range.

5.4 Measuring DC Current (µA–, mA–)

  1. IMPORTANT: Ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the meter in series.
  2. Set the rotary switch to µA– or mA– depending on the expected current.
  3. Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the load. The red lead connects to the higher potential side, and the black lead to the lower potential side.
  4. Apply power to the circuit.
  5. Read the current value on the display.

5.5 Measuring AC Current (µA∼, mA∼)

  1. IMPORTANT: Ensure the circuit is de-energized before connecting the meter in series.
  2. Set the rotary switch to µA∼ or mA∼ depending on the expected current.
  3. Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the load.
  4. Apply power to the circuit.
  5. Read the current value on the display.

5.6 Measuring Resistance (Ω)

  1. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  2. Set the rotary switch to Ω.
  3. Connect the test leads across the component to be measured.
  4. Read the resistance value on the display.

5.7 Diode Test (→|•)

  1. Ensure the diode is disconnected from any power source.
  2. Set the rotary switch to →|•.
  3. Connect the red test lead to the anode and the black test lead to the cathode of the diode. The display will show the forward voltage drop.
  4. Reverse the leads. The display should show 'OL' (Open Loop) for a good diode.

5.8 Continuity Test (→|•)

  1. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized.
  2. Set the rotary switch to →|•.
  3. Connect the test leads across the circuit or component.
  4. If continuity exists (resistance below approximately 50Ω), the buzzer will sound. The display will show the resistance value.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

To clean the multimeter, wipe the case with a damp cloth and a mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.

6.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, the batteries are low and should be replaced immediately to ensure accurate readings. Refer to Section 4.1 for battery installation instructions.

6.3 Storage

If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the unit. Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
