Setup

Follow these steps to prepare your percolator for brewing:

  1. Unpack and Clean: Carefully remove all packaging materials. Wash the percolator pot, lid, pump tube, and coffee basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
  2. Assemble Internal Parts: Place the pump tube into the center of the percolator pot. Ensure it is securely seated.
  3. Add Water: Fill the percolator pot with cold, fresh water to your desired cup marking. The pot has internal markings for up to 10 cups. Do not exceed the MAX fill line.
  4. Add Coffee Grounds: Place the removable coffee filter basket onto the pump tube. Add your desired amount of coarse ground coffee into the basket. For best results, use 1 heaping tablespoon of coarse ground coffee per 5-6 oz cup of water. Ensure the grounds are evenly distributed.
  5. Secure Lid: Place the lid with the PC knob onto the percolator pot, ensuring it fits snugly.
  6. Connect Power: Attach the removable power cord to the base of the percolator. Plug the other end into a standard 120V AC outlet.

Operating Instructions

Brewing coffee with your Moss & Stone percolator is simple:

  1. Start Brewing: Flip the ON/OFF switch located on the base of the percolator to the 'ON' position. The indicator light on the front will illuminate.
  2. Percolation Process: Water will begin to heat and cycle up through the pump tube, showering over the coffee grounds in the basket. You will observe the coffee percolating through the transparent PC knob on the lid.
  3. Brewing Time: Full percolation typically takes 7-10 minutes for 10 cups, depending on the amount of water and desired strength.
  4. Ready Indicator: Once brewing is complete, the indicator light will change color (e.g., from red to blue) or illuminate a 'Ready' light, signaling that your coffee is ready to serve.
  5. Keep Warm Function: The percolator automatically switches to a keep-warm function, maintaining the coffee at an ideal serving temperature (up to 170°F) until unplugged.
  6. Serve: Carefully pour the hot coffee into your cup using the cool-touch handle and easy-pour spout. Pour slowly to avoid drips.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and performance of your percolator:

  1. Unplug and Cool: Always unplug the percolator from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  2. Disassemble: Remove the lid, coffee basket, and pump tube. Discard used coffee grounds.
  3. Hand Wash: Wash all removable parts (lid, coffee basket, pump tube) in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly. The stainless steel parts are durable, but hand washing is recommended to preserve the finish. The main pot should also be hand washed; do not immerse the electrical base in water.
  4. Wipe Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the percolator pot and base with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the finish.
  5. Dry Thoroughly: Ensure all parts are completely dry before reassembling or storing the percolator.
