2. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when using tools. Failure to follow safety precautions can result in injury or damage to the workpiece.
- Eye Protection: Always wear safety glasses or goggles to protect your eyes from flying debris.
- Hand Protection: Wear appropriate gloves to protect your hands from sharp edges and metal shavings.
- Workpiece Stability: Secure the workpiece firmly in a vise or clamp to prevent movement during drilling and tapping.
- Proper Tool Usage: Use tools only for their intended purpose. Do not force tools, as this can cause breakage and injury.
- Clean Work Area: Keep your work area clean and free of clutter to prevent accidents.
- Coolant/Lubricant: Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant during drilling and tapping to reduce friction, heat, and extend tool life.
- Small Parts Warning: This kit contains small parts. Keep out of reach of children.
3. Setup
Before beginning the thread repair process, ensure you have a clear understanding of the steps and have all necessary safety equipment and tools ready.
- Identify Damaged Thread: Carefully inspect the damaged thread to determine the extent of the damage and confirm the original thread size (M16x1.5).
- Select Correct Tools: Ensure you are using the M16x1.5 twist drill bit, tap, and installation tool provided in the kit.
- Prepare Workpiece: Clean the area around the damaged thread. If possible, remove any burrs or obstructions. Secure the workpiece to prevent movement during drilling and tapping.
4. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps carefully to repair a damaged thread using the Jectse M16x1.5 Thread Repair Kit.
Step 1: Drill Out the Damaged Thread
Using the provided twist drill bit, carefully drill out the damaged thread. Ensure the drill is perpendicular to the workpiece surface to create a straight hole. Apply steady, even pressure and use appropriate cutting fluid. Remove chips frequently to prevent clogging.

Step 2: Tap New Threads
After drilling, use the matching tap to cut new threads into the drilled hole. Attach the tap to a suitable tap wrench (not included, but a hexagonal wrench is provided for the tap). Turn the tap clockwise, applying light, even pressure. After every half-turn, reverse the tap a quarter-turn to break off chips. Continue until the tap has cut threads to the desired depth. Use cutting fluid generously.

Step 3: Install the Threaded Insert
Place one of the thread repair sleeves (inserts) onto the installation tool. Ensure the tang of the insert engages with the slot on the installation tool. Carefully screw the threaded insert into the newly tapped hole. Turn clockwise until the insert is slightly below the surface of the workpiece. Do not overtighten.
Step 4: Break Off the Tang
Once the insert is fully seated, use the tail removal tool to break off the tang. Insert the tool into the hole and strike it sharply with a hammer. The tang should break cleanly at the notch. Remove the broken tang from the hole.
Your thread repair is now complete. The new thread is ready for use.

5. Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your thread repair kit.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean all tools thoroughly to remove metal shavings, cutting fluid residue, and dirt. Use a brush and a suitable cleaning agent if necessary.
- Lubrication: Lightly oil metal components, especially the tap and drill bit, before storing to prevent rust.
- Storage: Store the kit in its original case in a dry, clean environment to protect the tools from damage and corrosion.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the drill bit and tap for wear or damage. Replace worn tools to maintain optimal performance and prevent breakage.
6. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
- Tap or Drill Bit Breaks:
Cause: Excessive force, improper alignment, lack of lubricant, or hardened material.
Solution: Ensure proper alignment, use steady and even pressure, apply cutting fluid, and reverse the tap frequently to clear chips. If the material is exceptionally hard, consider alternative methods or professional assistance. - Insert Does Not Seat Properly:
Cause: Tapped hole not deep enough, debris in the hole, or incorrect installation tool usage.
Solution: Ensure the tapped hole is clean and deep enough. Verify the installation tool is correctly engaging the insert's tang. - New Thread is Loose:
Cause: Incorrect drill bit size used, or tap not fully cutting the thread.
Solution: Double-check that the correct drill bit and tap for M16x1.5 are used. Ensure the tap fully cuts the thread to the correct depth.
