4. Setup

4.1 Charging the Units

Both the Handheld Remote Transmitter and the Collar Receiver use rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. It takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge the units. The remote transmitter battery lasts 20-40 hours per charge, and the receiver collar lasts 50-70 hours per charge. The system includes low battery indicators to alert you when recharging is needed.

4.2 Fitting the Collar

Proper fit of the collar receiver is crucial for effective and humane training. The collar should fit snugly, ensuring the probes make consistent contact with your dog's skin without causing discomfort. A good rule of thumb is that you should be able to fit only one finger under the strap. Recheck the fit after several minutes of wear to ensure it remains secure and comfortable.

4.3 Turning On/Off and Syncing

To turn on the Collar Receiver, press and release the On/Off Button. A green indicator light will blink, signifying it is on. To turn it off, press the same button again until the light blinks red once. The Handheld Remote Transmitter does not have a dedicated On/Off button; it is on-demand. When you press any of the three buttons, it activates. To ensure proper communication, it is recommended to send a signal from the transmitter to the receiver shortly after turning the receiver on.

5. Operating

5.1 Stimulation Modes

The SportTrainer 575 offers multiple modes of stimulation to suit various training needs:

  • Tone (Beep): Delivers an audible beep as a warning or command.
  • Vibration (Buzz): Provides a gentle vibration.
  • Static Stimulation: Offers 10 levels of both continuous and momentary static stimulation.

The OLED screen clearly indicates the selected mode and intensity level. Always start with the lowest effective stimulation level and increase gradually if necessary.

5.2 Adjusting Stimulation Levels

Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the remote transmitter to adjust the static stimulation level from 1 to 10. The OLED screen will display the current level. For the collar receiver, you can adjust the static range (low or medium) by following these steps:

  1. Ensure the Collar Receiver is off.
  2. Turn the unit on by pressing and releasing the On/Off Button.
  3. After the Indicator Light turns off and within 5 seconds, press and hold the On/Off Button for 3 seconds.
  4. The Collar Receiver will beep twice and the Indicator Light will flash orange for medium stimulation range. For low range, continue holding the On/Off Button until the number of beeps/orange flashes equals 1.
  5. Release the On/Off Button once the desired range is selected; the Collar Receiver will turn off.

5.3 Multi-Dog Training

The SportTrainer 575 system can be expanded to train up to 2 dogs with the same handheld remote by purchasing additional Add-A-Dog Collars (SDR-AF). The remote allows you to switch between dogs using dedicated buttons.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SportDOG SportTrainer 575, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the collar and receiver with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
  • Battery Care: Charge the lithium-ion batteries when the low battery indicator appears. Avoid overcharging or completely draining the batteries for extended periods.
  • Storage: Store the system in a dry place when not in use.
  • Contact Points: Periodically check the contact points for wear and ensure they are clean and free of corrosion.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SportDOG SportTrainer 575, consider the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • No Stimulation/Weak Stimulation:
    • Ensure the collar is properly fitted and the contact points are touching the dog's skin.
    • Check battery levels on both the remote and collar. Recharge if necessary.
    • Verify the stimulation level is set appropriately on the remote.
    • Confirm the remote and collar are synced.
  • Collar Not Turning On:
    • Ensure the battery is charged.
    • Press and hold the On/Off button firmly.
  • Remote Not Responding:
    • Check the remote's battery level.
    • Ensure you are within the 500-yard range of the collar.
  • Dog Vocalizing During Stimulation:
    • If your dog vocalizes or shows extreme discomfort, the stimulation level is too high. Immediately reduce the intensity. The goal is a subtle reaction, not pain.
