2.2 Charging the Battery

The GM-6 Glossmeter is equipped with a built-in 3.7V Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. Before initial use, fully charge the device. Connect the USB charging cable to the glossmeter and the power adapter, then plug the adapter into a standard electrical outlet. A full charge typically takes approximately 4 hours.

2.3 Initial Calibration

For accurate measurements, it is crucial to calibrate the device before first use and periodically thereafter. The GM-6 comes with a calibration standard plate. Refer to the 'Operating Instructions' section for detailed calibration steps using the 'CAL' button.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Powering On/Off

Press and hold the red circular button (power button) to turn the device on or off. The backlit LCD will illuminate upon powering on.

3.2 Calibration Procedure

  1. Ensure the glossmeter is clean and free of dust on its measurement aperture.
  2. Place the glossmeter firmly and flatly onto the provided calibration standard plate.
  3. Press the 'CAL' button. The display will show a calibration progress indicator.
  4. Wait for the calibration to complete. The device will display a confirmation or the current gloss unit reading of the standard.

3.4 Changing Measurement Angle (if applicable)

The GM-6 Glossmeter is specified for 60-degree geometry. If the device supports multiple angles (not explicitly stated for this model but common in glossmeters), use the 'ANGLE' button to switch between available measurement geometries. For the GM-6, the primary measurement geometry is 60 degrees.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the measurement aperture and the calibration standard plate with the provided soft cleaning cloth. Ensure no dust, fingerprints, or debris are present on these surfaces, as they can affect measurement accuracy. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

4.2 Battery Care

To fully charge the battery, it takes about 4 hours each time. When the tester is not used for a long time, it is recommended to charge it once every 3 months to maintain battery health and longevity.

4.3 Storage

Store the glossmeter in its compact plastic case when not in use to protect it from dust, moisture, and physical damage. Store in a dry environment within the specified working conditions (0~40°C temperature; <85% humidity).

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Inaccurate Readings

  • Check Calibration: Ensure the device is properly calibrated using the standard plate.
  • Clean Surfaces: Verify that the measurement aperture and the surface being measured are clean and free of contaminants.
  • Stable Placement: Ensure the glossmeter is placed firmly and flatly on the surface without any wobbling.
  • Environmental Conditions: Operate the device within the specified temperature and humidity ranges.

5.2 Device Not Powering On

  • Battery Charge: The battery may be depleted. Connect the device to the charger and allow it to charge for at least 4 hours.
  • Charging Cable/Adapter: Ensure the charging cable and power adapter are functioning correctly and securely connected.

5.3 Display Issues

  • Low Battery: A dim or flickering display might indicate a low battery. Recharge the device.
  • Environmental Factors: Extreme temperatures outside the operating range can affect LCD performance. Allow the device to acclimate to room temperature.
