1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Membrane Solutions 50 Micron Sediment Water Filter Replacement Polypropylene Cartridge (Model MPP-F10-50). Please read these instructions carefully before use to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your filter.
2. Product Overview
The Membrane Solutions 50 Micron Sediment Water Filter Cartridge is designed as a first-stage filter for various water filtration systems. It effectively removes sediment, rust, silt, sand, and other undissolved particles from your water supply, protecting downstream filters and appliances.
Key Features:
- Material Safety: Constructed from 100% food-grade polypropylene, free of lead and BPA. Certified by NSF International to meet NSF/ANSI Standard 42 for material safety.
- Effective Filtration: Removes 99% of rust, silt, sand, and other particles.
- Multi-Layer Structure: Features three separate gradient density layers for deep sediment filtration, offering superior dirt-holding capacity and extended service life.
- Service Life: Designed for a service life of 3-6 months or 10,000-15,000 gallons, depending on water quality and usage.
- Universal Fit: Compatible with most standard 10-inch x 2.5-inch filter housings used in reverse osmosis systems, under-sink filtration systems, and whole-house water filtration units.

3. Safety Information
Your safety is important. Please observe the following guidelines:
- Ensure the filter is installed in a compatible housing and system.
- Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.
- The filter is designed for cold water applications only (40-113°F / 5-45°C).
- Always turn off the water supply and relieve pressure before attempting to install or replace the filter cartridge.
- Follow all local plumbing codes and regulations during installation.
4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your sediment filter cartridge:
- Turn off Water Supply: Locate the main water shut-off valve and turn off the water supply to the filter system.
- Relieve Pressure: If your filter housing has a pressure release button, press it to relieve any built-up pressure.
- Open Housing: Unscrew the filter housing sump using a filter wrench.
- Remove Old Filter: Carefully remove the old filter cartridge and dispose of it properly.
- Clean Housing: Clean the inside of the filter housing sump with warm, soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Inspect the O-ring for any damage and replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant if needed.
- Insert New Filter: Place the new Membrane Solutions 50 Micron Sediment Water Filter Cartridge into the housing sump. Ensure it is centered and seated correctly.
- Close Housing: Screw the filter housing sump back onto the cap, hand-tightening it. Do not overtighten.
- Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply. Check for leaks around the filter housing.
- Flush Filter: Open a nearby cold water faucet and allow water to run for at least 5 minutes (approximately 5 gallons) to flush out any carbon fines or air from the system. This is important for initial use.

5. Operation
Once installed, the sediment filter operates passively as water flows through it. The multi-layer polypropylene material traps sediment and particles, providing cleaner water to your home or specific appliances. No active user intervention is required during normal operation.
6. Maintenance
Regular replacement of the sediment filter cartridge is crucial for maintaining water quality and protecting your filtration system.
- Replacement Schedule: It is recommended to replace the filter cartridge every 3 to 6 months, or after filtering 10,000 to 15,000 gallons of water. Actual replacement frequency may vary based on your local water quality and household water consumption.
- Signs of Clogging: A noticeable decrease in water pressure or flow rate indicates that the filter is becoming clogged with sediment and needs replacement.
- Replacement Procedure: Follow the steps outlined in the 'Setup and Installation' section for replacing the filter cartridge.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your water filter, consider the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Reduced Water Flow | Clogged filter cartridge | Replace the filter cartridge. |
| Water Discoloration/Particles | Filter cartridge needs replacement or was not flushed properly after installation. | Replace the filter cartridge and flush the system thoroughly. |
| Leaks from Housing | Improperly seated O-ring, damaged O-ring, or loose housing. | Turn off water, relieve pressure, check O-ring for proper seating and damage (replace if needed), lubricate O-ring, and ensure housing is hand-tightened. |
