Important Safety Instructions

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, injury to persons, or exposure to excessive microwave energy when using your appliance, follow basic precautions, including:

  • Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  • Do not attempt to operate this oven with the door open as this can result in harmful exposure to microwave energy.
  • Do not place any object between the oven front face and the door or allow soil or cleaner residue to accumulate on sealing surfaces.
  • Do not operate the oven if it is damaged. It is particularly important that the oven door closes properly and that there is no damage to the: (1) door (bent), (2) hinges and latches (broken or loosened), (3) door seals and sealing surfaces.
  • The oven should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except properly qualified service personnel.
  • Ensure the appliance is properly grounded.
  • Do not heat liquids or other foods in sealed containers as they are liable to explode.
  • Do not use corrosive chemicals or vapors in this appliance.
  • Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.

Setup and Installation

Unpacking

  • Remove all packaging materials from inside and outside the microwave oven.
  • Inspect the oven for any damage, such as a misaligned or bent door, damaged door seals and sealing surface, broken or loose door hinges and latches, or dents inside the cavity or on the door. If any damage is present, do not operate the oven and contact customer support.

Placement

  • Place the microwave oven on a flat, stable surface that can support its weight and the heaviest food likely to be cooked in it.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation. Allow a minimum of 10 cm (4 inches) clearance on the top, 10 cm (4 inches) on the rear, and 5 cm (2 inches) on the sides for proper airflow. Do not block any ventilation openings.
  • Keep the oven away from heat sources, steam, or splashing liquids.

Electrical Connection

  • Ensure your local power supply matches the specifications on the oven's rating label (220V).
  • Plug the oven into a properly installed and grounded wall outlet. Do not use extension cords or multiple outlet adapters.

Operating Your Microwave

Control Panel Overview

The Sharp R-20AS-W microwave features two rotary dials for easy control:

  • Power Level Dial: Used to select the desired cooking power, from low to high (800 Watts).
  • Timer Dial: Used to set the cooking time, typically up to 30 minutes.

Basic Microwave Cooking

  1. Place the food in a microwave-safe container on the glass turntable.
  2. Close the oven door securely.
  3. Turn the Power Level Dial to your desired power setting (e.g., HIGH for full power).
  4. Turn the Timer Dial to the desired cooking time. The oven will start automatically.
  5. When the cooking time is complete, the oven will signal and turn off. Carefully remove the food.

Defrost Function

The defrost function allows you to thaw frozen foods efficiently.

  1. Place the frozen food in a microwave-safe container on the glass turntable.
  2. Close the oven door securely.
  3. Turn the Power Level Dial to the DEFROST setting (usually a lower power setting).
  4. Turn the Timer Dial to the recommended defrosting time based on the food's weight or type.
  5. Midway through defrosting, it is often beneficial to turn over or separate the food for even thawing.

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning the Interior

  • After each use, wipe the interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent to prevent food splatters from drying and hardening.
  • For stubborn stains, place a bowl of water with lemon slices inside and microwave for 2-3 minutes. The steam will loosen the grime, making it easier to wipe clean.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can damage the interior surface.

Cleaning the Exterior

  • Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Avoid getting water into the ventilation openings.

Turntable Care

  • The glass turntable and roller ring can be removed for cleaning. Wash them in warm, soapy water or in the dishwasher.
  • Ensure they are completely dry before placing them back in the oven.
