1. Safety Information

Please read this manual carefully before operating the device to ensure safe and proper use. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid strong vibrations or impacts to prevent damage to the sensitive sensor.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
  • Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent battery leakage.
  • Dispose of batteries and the device according to local regulations.

2. Product Overview

The Walfront MT-912 is a portable digital light meter designed for accurate measurement of illumination (Lux/Foot-candles) and temperature. It features a color LCD display with backlight, data hold, and MAX/MIN functions.

2.1 Components

  1. Vane Sensor: Detects ambient light. Ensure it is clean and unobstructed for accurate readings.
  2. LCD Display: Shows measurement readings (Lux/FC, Temperature), battery status, and function indicators.
  3. HOLD Key: Freezes the current reading on the display.
  4. Power On/Off Key: Turns the device on or off.
  5. MIN/MAX Key: Toggles between minimum, maximum, and current readings.
  6. FC/Lux Key: Switches the illumination unit between Foot-candles (FC) and Lux (Lx).
  7. Nameplate: Contains product identification information.
  8. Battery Compartment: Houses the AAA batteries.

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

The MT-912 Light Meter requires three (3) 1.5V AAA batteries (not included).

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device.
  2. Gently slide the battery compartment cover downwards to open it.
  3. Insert three AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover, sliding it upwards until it clicks into place.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Powering On/Off

  • To turn on the device, press the Power On/Off key (Power button icon). The LCD display will illuminate.
  • To turn off the device, press and hold the Power On/Off key for approximately 2 seconds.

4.2 Taking Light Measurements

Ensure the vane sensor cap is removed before taking measurements.

  1. Turn on the device.
  2. Point the vane sensor towards the light source or the area where you want to measure illumination.
  3. The current illumination reading will be displayed on the LCD in Lux (Lx) or Foot-candles (FC).
  4. Press the FC/Lux key to switch between Lux and Foot-candle units.

4.3 Temperature Measurement

The device simultaneously measures and displays the ambient temperature along with the illumination reading. The temperature unit is Celsius (℃).

4.4 Data Hold Function

  • To freeze the current reading on the display, press the HOLD key. The "HOLD" indicator will appear on the screen.
  • To release the hold and resume live measurement, press the HOLD key again.

4.5 MAX/MIN Function

  • Press the MIN/MAX key once to display the maximum recorded illumination value. The "MAX" indicator will appear.
  • Press the MIN/MAX key again to display the minimum recorded illumination value. The "MIN" indicator will appear.
  • Press the MIN/MAX key a third time to return to live measurement.

4.6 Backlight

The LCD display features a backlight for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The backlight automatically activates when the device is turned on and may have an auto-off feature to conserve battery life.

4.7 Over Range Indication

If the measured illumination exceeds the device's maximum range, the display will show an over-range indicator (e.g., "OL" or similar). Move to an area with lower light intensity or ensure the sensor is not directly exposed to extremely bright sources beyond its capacity.

4.8 Low Power Indication

When the battery voltage is low, a battery icon will appear on the LCD display, indicating that the batteries need to be replaced soon.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Wipe the device casing with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth with mild detergent, then wipe dry.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or alcohol, as these can damage the plastic and display.
  • Keep the vane sensor clean and free of dust or smudges to ensure accurate readings. Use a soft brush or lint-free cloth.

5.2 Battery Replacement

Refer to Section 3.1 Battery Installation for instructions on replacing the AAA batteries when the low power indicator appears.

5.3 Storage

  • When not in use, store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Always replace the protective cap on the vane sensor before storage.
  • Remove batteries if storing the device for an extended period (e.g., more than one month) to prevent battery leakage and damage.

6. Troubleshooting
