Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure safe and optimal performance.

Product Overview

Competition Electronics Prochrono LTD Chronograph, gray unit with two white diffuser screens and metal support rods

Image: The Prochrono LTD Chronograph, featuring a gray main unit with a digital display showing "922". Two white diffuser screens are mounted above the unit on metal support rods, designed to provide consistent lighting conditions for accurate velocity measurements.

The Prochrono LTD Chronograph incorporates internal and external refinements, including updated circuitry and an enhanced enclosure design. It features a built-in operating system with multiple shot string memory and statistical functions. The sensing system is engineered for compatibility with a wide range of light conditions and projectile types, offering improved accuracy of plus or minus 0.5% or better due to a faster internal shot clock.

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Ensure you have the main chronograph unit, two diffuser screens, and four metal support rods.
  2. Battery Installation: The Prochrono LTD requires one 9-volt alkaline battery (not included). Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the unit. Open the compartment, connect the 9-volt battery to the terminal, and place it inside. Close the compartment securely.
  3. Diffuser Screen Assembly:
    • Insert the four metal support rods into the designated holes on the top of the chronograph unit. Ensure they are firmly seated.
    • Attach the two white diffuser screens to the top of the support rods. The screens should be positioned directly above the sensing areas of the chronograph. These screens help to normalize ambient light, which is crucial for accurate readings.
  4. Placement:
    • Place the chronograph on a stable, level surface.
    • Position the unit so that the projectile will pass directly over the sensing areas, between the two diffuser screens.
    • Optimal lighting conditions are essential. The unit performs best when placed in consistent, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight or heavy shadows directly over the sensors. Some users find success by ensuring the unit sees the sky but remains in the shade.
    • Ensure there is sufficient clear space above and around the chronograph for the projectile's path.

Operating Instructions

  1. Power On: Press the "ON" button to power on the chronograph. The display will illuminate and show a readiness indicator.
  2. Taking a Measurement:
    • Once the unit is powered on and ready, carefully fire the projectile through the center of the sensing area, ensuring it passes over both sensors.
    • For accurate readings, the projectile should pass within approximately 3 inches of the top of the unit.
    • The velocity reading will be displayed on the screen immediately after the projectile passes.
  3. Shot String Memory: The Prochrono LTD can store multiple shot strings. Refer to the on-screen prompts or specific button functions (e.g., "REVIEW" or "STAT") to access stored data, view statistics, and clear memory.
  4. Power Off: Press and hold the "OFF" button to power down the unit when finished.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the chronograph. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure the sensor areas and diffuser screens are free from dirt, dust, or debris, as this can affect accuracy.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the chronograph in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. It is recommended to remove the 9-volt battery if the unit will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9-volt battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display or if the unit fails to power on. Always use a fresh alkaline battery.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No reading displayed after firing.
  • Incorrect projectile path (not over sensors).
  • Insufficient or inconsistent lighting.
  • Low battery.
  • Sensors obstructed.
  • Ensure projectile passes directly over both sensors, within 3 inches of the unit's top.
  • Adjust placement for consistent, indirect light. Use diffuser screens.
  • Replace 9-volt battery.
  • Clean sensor areas and diffuser screens.
Inaccurate or inconsistent readings.
  • Poor lighting conditions.
  • Unit movement during measurement.
  • Projectile too close or too far from sensors.
  • Optimize lighting; avoid direct sun or deep shade.
  • Ensure the chronograph is on a stable surface.
  • Maintain consistent projectile path over sensors.
Unit does not power on.
  • Dead or improperly installed battery.
  • Check battery connection and replace with a fresh 9-volt battery.
